Subject: Printing the Drill Drawing

This week I printed the sky portion of the Pyramid print, which I had previously drawn on the block with an electric drill. I printed three layers of color, and because the drill lines weren't very deep the printed lines closed up quite a bit.


SkyBlue

Fortunately the last layer, the blue, was a strong color, so it came out OK. Next up is the final linework (keyblock).

Almost done with the tree.  Just a few ornaments left at the top.  Then I can test print the tree and see how much trouble it'll be to clean up the ornaments each time.

In case you missed it, the recent email sent to all the citizens with all the information at your fingertips:
 
Remember the initial deadline for this project is fast approaching!
There are just over half of the blocks already back here with their neighbors, some are traveling to me as we speak.
Please don't "quit" if you can't mail by the end of the year though. Try very hard to get them to me but know also that we will await all the happy blocks, otherwise we'll have a puzzle with holes and nobody wants that.

I have 15 blocks arrived in the past two weeks already photographed and put away.
Look for the blog updates to see the marvelous contributions in the next few days.

Subject: They are coming fast and furious! From Michigan and Ireland

Ruth Egnater from Okemos, Michigan USA, says this about her city block:

Didn't even do the image I had worked out all along.  Just changed it today and started and finished the block.  I have lived in Detroit and Chicago and travel as much as possible to other cities and love the well done graffiti and murals found on buildings,trains, and murals making our cities even more special.  One of my daughters lives in Baltimore,  took photos of one artists numerous love messages with a double loop on the O and a heart at the end .  She turned the images into post cards and I chose one that looks like an alley with a freight elevator with the love message spray painted on the door and of course the heart attached to the end.. 



Annamie Pretorious sent her block across the pond from Swords, Dublin IRELAND.
I guess I confess enjoying most the newspapers from around the world; funny to see the same advertisements in some of them and stories near and dear to the sender and the entire world. This project is turning out to be quite a global conversation!

Subject: Nine years of thank yous

I do not have traditional artist credentials, so I am always on the lookout for my own milestones.  I've been creating art seriously for nine years, but doing so with the typical demands of children and family.  So my latest milestone crept up on me. 


I just hung a show at the IVY Tech John Waldron Arts Center's main gallery.  A total of 28 pieces grace the walls. As I was arranging the work, I could hear the painting class across the hallway.  I remembered that I too started there, with a watercolor class in the fall of 2002.  I would drop off my son at preschool, rush over and learn to paint some very lumpy oranges, and then rush back for pick-up, lunch and naps.  If you had told me then that I would have a show in the gallery across the hall, I would not have believed you. I get misty just thinking about it.


I regularly read Alyson B. Stanfield's Art Marketing Newsletter.  In a recent edition, she asks who are the people who have nurtured and supported you in your journey as an artist.  So I started to think, and came up with a list (admittedly incomplete and not in any particular order.)
