Subject: [Baren 44498] Large image transfer to the woodblock
Send Message: To this poster

Hello,

For my next project, I want to make large format woodcuts +/- 45cm x 70 cm (+/- 18 x 27,5 inch).
The design is made on the computer.
I have done some tests to transfer the large image to the woodblock but haven't find a good working method.
Has anyone a hint or a suggestion how to transfer large format images to the woodblock?
The images are fine detailled.

Many thanks,

I would print it out on paper and glue it face down on the wood, wait overnight and then oil the back of it so you can gently rub some away and see the drawing well. I have had good luck with this. I used regular computer paper and think you might find thinner paper at a print store, In the USA we have Kinkos and Office Depot...but think amy place that prints engineering drawings can do this as well. The other choice is to just draw it on the wood or use carbon paper of some type to transfer it. I will be really interested to see if anyone has better ideas for this large work, working larger is a challenge. I know Dave did a large work a few years ago but don't remember if he printed out the original drawings. My bet is he did.

sorry to post twice, here is the link to the large print Dave did for his scroll, with directions step by step and Kinkos was involved

I print out the image in sections then tape it all back together and
use transfer/carbon paper to transfer the image.

Subject: Ibis linocut progress
Posted by: Sherrie Y

I dashed off to Studio V first thing this morning, anxious to make a little more progress on the ibis linocut. Last night as I was trying to settle down for sleep I realized that I didn't much like the contrast in the upper portion of the image and I needed to tone it down before carving any more of the block.

That meant the first order of business was some select inking and printing. Just this little bit behind the birds' heads. The gray-green that was there was just too dark, so I mixed up a very pale gray, semi-transparent.

Not sure if you can really see the difference here but, trust me, it's better.
