Litho crayons work great for the drawing and so does a castile soap
mixed with water and painted on as in the video. the coke is just plan
coca cola. Here is her website

Thank you so much for this link.

Yesterday, I tried ivory soap to make the image on tin foil, cola to
etch it,
and water soluable oil based etching ink to print. Also tried oil
paint. But
I got no etch, no image at all. Was this because of the soap I used, or
was it due to the water soluable oil based etching ink (speedball)?

I am guessing that any water soluable etching ink won't work (even if
it is
oil based).

Comments are appreciated,
joan

water soluble ink won't work, of course -- lithography depends on water and
oil not mixing...

HI,

I did see a ghost image but the ink would not stick to it,
and instead, stuck all around it like a negative image.
I used Ivory Hand soap (bar soap). I used Coca Cola.
I tried Canola oil. And I used water soluable oil based
etching ink.

Then it was definitely the ink. like Mike said lithography works
because oil and water don't mix (in nature anyway).

have an older CD for Paint shop Pro. It is version 6.02, dated
1990-2000. If some wants it send me your address and I will mail it to
you. I have a Mac,this is for a PC, cleaning out for a new set or his
and hers desks in our computer room,YEAH!

I don't think it is soap they are using. Soap won't washout with the
corn oil. I think they are painting with a grease block or when I
translated it was Grease Chalk so I'm thinking something like Lard or
vegetable shortening would work best, even butter. Grease attracts
grease. The etch is to attract water with the Gum Arabic and phosphoric
acid in the Coke. I always heard you could process litho with Coke but
always thought it was a printing myth. Anyway I'm going to try this
next week when I get a chance. Should be fun.

It is definitely soap not lard or Crisco. She answered this question
in another forum the soap she used is called Savon de Marseille. this
works if you follow the video and use oil based etching ink. i have
tried it. no gum arabic needed.

ok didn't see that. The Gum and phosphoric are already in Coke btw
probably why it works for this process

Subject: Matting & Framing
Posted by: Ellen Shipley

Working on matting and framing new works and older works I haven't shown before.  Came across an interesting mat size at Aaron Bros. called Digital that works just great with some of my odd-ball sized smaller prints.  (Now if I'd learn to cut my own mats I wouldn't have this problem.)  ;- j

Broke my brain tho.  I can only look at mats and frames for so long before I can't think anymore.  I'll go back tomorrow and see what else I can find.  Nice sales right now.
