Baren printmakers

I don't know if you were aware that the first shipment of the benefit prints I sent to S Africa never arrived. I had sent it via the post office for $65 over a month ago. It was very stressful for both of us when it did not arrive in the promised 5 day window of time...

Finally I shipped a second box via FED EX and you do not want to know what that costs, the date for the opening of the exhibit was delayed to Sept 17... but now both sets are there!
The good news is I just heard from Masako and that the prints were sent to frame the framer has sold 6 before the opening...
Masako will have 4 of each print instead of two and with luck will sell them all! I think the money in S Africa is going to the International Red Cross.
My best to you all
Barbara

Hi All,
Should we be making a donation to cover some of the shipping of the prints to their various venues? I'd be glad to pitch in.

Carol,
Lets wait till the end and see...the online sales are charging $10 for shipping the prints and it is costing about $6 for priority mail, so unless I need to send some out of the country I might come out ok on it.
If I go in the hole too much, I can ask for help.
Many thanks for your thoughtfulness

USPS Domestic First Class Parcel should only be around $3 including Delivery
Confirmation. This is how I ship all my print sales from online venues.
Prints can be sandwiched between two pieces of corrugated board to make them
rigid and qualify for First Class Parcel; the package has to remain under 13
oz. but this is a substantial savings over Priority Mail and it is just as
fast.

If you have a PayPal account you can print labels at home (for additional
savings of time and money) with Multi-order Shipping which is available to
all business PayPal accounts.

Just a suggestion!

Maria

Dear Barbara,

I am pleased to inform the Baren members that I have received all the
prints (except for the one by Rakesh). We will run the exhibition from
24 August to 24 September, with a big party on 17 September. I have
already sold 8 prints!

Way too much news right now ... so let's just grab whatever's on 'top' of the pile and start there ...

If you checked in at the Woodblock Webcam recently, you may have seen new printer Tsushima-san working on her current practice project. The confectionery has a good stock of the kakegami at present, so we're using the 'free time' until they need another batch to work on some printing basics. As I mentioned in the previous post, I went into my storeroom and found a set of blocks that I felt was suitable for her - not so difficult that she would be frustrated by not being able to get a decent result, but with enough 'meat' that she would have a challenge.

It was a design from the second Surimono Album, which is now nearly out of print in my own edition (just a few sets are left). Because they are nearly all gone, it is time to think about using those blocks to issue the prints as individual items in the Mokuhankan catalogue. (I will clearly never be doing another edition myself, as my own time will always be spent on the current project ...)

Anyway, she finished up the sample batch of six sheets this morning; here's the best one from the group (clickable):

Your first reaction might be that this is a bit lacking in 'body', and you would be right - because this is printed on the same bland white machine-made paper that we use . . .
