Andrea,
I would blot it onto damp paper...it will never dry on the canvas. I did the
same thing and then emailed Susan Rostow who told me to blot it...it all came off.
So I ended up having to buy paint to paint with
my best

Hi Ellen,
My year of the tier prints are on a blue handmade paper. Pencil did
not show up and the back is the same color as the front on this paper.
I decided o just sign them with an ink pen. Yes guys they are waiting
to be mailed. I have only signed about 3 so far ummmm. And the little
guys are up north in Washington and I am 25000 miles south in the Baja
Sur. Rabbits are being carved. Some tims one has to "go with" what
works!!!

How about a monoprint from it? Transfer it to paper with pressure.

Can you tell I must have either been half awake or half asleep when I
wrote that last message. To be honest I am doped up on benadryl. The
gnats where we are camping are eating me alive. (I have welts like
mosquito bites everywhere, well almost everywere)I have found the
wonder drug, OD on benadryl and you can sleep without itching!!
Getting a great watercolor here camping in the desert. This painting
will become a print. YIKES more work!!!

Question??? For those of you who use Guerra pigment dispersions, can
you fly on an airplane with them? The airlines confiscate so much
these days. And if my memory is better than my typing they have a
label that says something about being dangerous on them? I would like
to take them to the June summit. I know stop posting, one a day is
all! Forgive this blurry eyed printer.

Thanks for the suggestions Barbara, Ellen and Jan. I tried to pull a monotype using Barbara's method of blotting it onto damp paper. I ended up with something much different from what was on the canvas, as the gold intaglio ink did not transfer well to the paper. Nonetheless, the print is interesting with lots of texture from the canvas and blotches from ink that didn't make it to paper. As I had feared, it was muddy in places but I found I could brighten it up with some water soluble colored pencil. This might just be salvageable with a couple of hours of drawing! And Jan... I do pretty much the same thing with my Akua Kolors. I mix them in a watercolor palette and reuse them over and over and over the course of months. that's one of my favorite things about them - no waste! As well as no trouble cleaning brushes, which is the main reason I didn't get my oil paints in the first place...Thanks Again,Andreawww.starkeyart.blogspot.comwww.starkeyart.comAndrea, sorry I can't post on the Baren Forum, for some unknown reason my computer won't let me. Or something. Anyway, re Akua, they dry by absorbtion into the paper, usually for a print it's about 2 to 3 hours, but if you've used thick layers, it could be lots longer. I have some in pots that I leave out to air dry, and they have been in the pots for about 6 months, to a depth of about a quarter of an inch, and are now the consistency of an oil based ink, great for rolling up with a brayer. So your painting may take a while.........JanDe Walden Press

I'm happy to report that this print, God Blesses John Alexander and Thomas Roberts 1637, has been selected for inclusion in The Print Center's 85th Annual International Competition: Printmaking, which opens Saturday, June 4, at the Print Center in Philadelphia. Curated by Emi Eu, Director of Singapore Tyler Print Institute, and Sarah Suzuki, Assistant Curator of Prints and Illustrated Books at Museum of Modern Art in NY, the show will hang at the Print Center from June 4 ? July 30, 2011, and then move on to Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences (LBIF) in Loveladies, NJ, for September 9 ? November 1, 2011.

I'm not so happy to report that I won't be able to attend the opening because I'll be in Japan for the 1st International Mokuhanga Conference. It's an embarrassment of riches, I know, but I would love to see the Print Center and meet the curators and some of the other artists in the show. Many thanks to The Print Center and the two jurors for selecting my work.

Here are some of the Leftovers II prints.  Quite a lot of variety in paper, ink and image, which adds to the charm in my opinion.  ;- ]

They're all pieces of the Once In a Blue Moon block, which tickles me.  Hey, if printmaking isn't fun, why do it?  ;- y

Subject: Progress on the Great City!
Posted by: Maria

The Great City of the World is getting drawn on the blocks this week. I just love doodling in Photoshop!!!
I started out by grabbing a bunch of ideas from clip art mostly, some from my head, some from actual cities. After much MUCH mulling and eliminating some ideas that were too detailed or just not suitable, I settled on about 6 sketches from which I made a composite preliminary sketch.

Now I confess I'm not much of a "pre-sketcher" for my own work, but this "problem" needs some planning. I have five vertical blocks to fill, each is about 22" x 30" (55 x 76 cm). The blue dividing lines in the sketch above indicate more or less the block divisions. And of course the overall sketch has to be divided into smaller puzzle pieces, so detail is not possible and clear composition is a must.

Next is to translate and simplify that messy sketch into the blocks. Now THAT I like! I love drawing directly on the wood. I already reversed the initial sketch because I like the composition above and printed each block a bit bigger for guidance.

Blocks are ready to go and I'm heading for the pencil drawer. I imagine that the final composition will change a bit, especially because as I draw I need to be able . . .
