The link from the Rakuten site will ship to the US if you use their freight forwarder, tenso.com. Appears to be about $17 additional.

We already have some wonderful 'storytellers' on board for this
trip through world mythology!

Myths are stories that explain the unexplainable, give shape and
face to terrors and wisdom, and reveal the heart of
civilizations. We will meet gods, heros, evil spirits, and
stories of beginnings and endings.

This promises to be a remarkable gathering of little prints, 7.5
x 10 inches (25.5 cm x 19 cm). It might be the exchange to
bring you into wood engraving! Or detailed linocuts! Perhaps a
venture into moku hanga! A small print can become a jewel!

We have a few places left on this adventure into mythology. Tell
us a story of your land, or of a land you've studied: one-eyed
monsters, the raven jokester, whirlpools that swallow the sea,
stories of the dreaming.

Here's a site to help you remember, or to lead you to new stories:
http://www.asij.ac.jp/hslibrary/pathfinder/mythology/mythologymainpage.htm

Tell us a story! Do it in a print! (Do it by May 1! ;-) )

Subject: Mystique Series #11 : sizing the paper ... in winter!
Posted by: Dave Bull

With most of the carving now finished (except for the sea block, for which Seki-san is sending me a bit more detail later ... bubbles, etc) it's time to start getting ready for the printing.

And that means ... sizing time!

This is the fourth pair of prints that I have done since beginning to do the sizing myself, back in the summer. As I reported at that time, it went pretty well (considering I had never done it before), and I was feeling fairly confident about it.

The second 'go-round' a couple of months later also went smoothly, but when I did the paper the third time - for the previous pair of prints exactly two months ago - I ran into many problems. That was in early December, and the ambient conditions here could not be more different; instead of hot and humid, it had become cold and very dry. But I was ready for that, or so I thought.

Subject: Blizzard of '11

Those of you who follow us on Facebook know that we anticipated being off of work on February 2nd - not in observance of Ground Hog's Day, but rather in anticipation of the Blizzard of 2011 which promised 2+ feet of snow.

Yesterday was one of those rare, stay at home days with very little to do but eat and sleep. This morning, Susan and I came to work not expecting that the Village of Villa Park was also sleeping. Our street was plowed in much the same sense that a drunk is "plowed" - a wavy strip down the middle of the street. Our snow plower's truck broke down half way through the job, and we have no parking space left for the office staff that comes in about a half hour from now.

The scene above is at the south end of our parking lot, and the pile of snow is something greater than 8 feet tall, 15 feet in depth and 30 feet wide - about 400 cubic feet of the white stuff. Please someone tell me again why I live here!

I am done! tomorrow i will hang it up and take some proper photos, clean up and put my dinning room back together. i already don't hate it. i did a little work Monday then didn't do anymore until today. the time away was good i used stencils and a roller and things went much faster. i was really locked into the white line painting frame of mind but the image really lends its self to rolling the ink and with a little stenciling things went much faster. when i do this one again i could probably get it done in at least half and maybe even a third of the time. i will print one in black before i put up the block and i will use the black print in the same way that i did the gold and silver falls but i might add some copper leaf as well.

Chinese New Year

--Bette Norcross Wappner

I'm writing a haiku a day for the month of February. This is today's haiku. I think the rabbit on my block is moving faster than I am :)

If you want to join in on the haiku-writing fun check out the "NaHaiWriMo" link:
