My impression is that it is a Proof Press for Letterpress (relief). I am not
sure, with the small roller it would deliver enough pressure for intaglio.
As to relief printing, it would be fun but you might investigate other
options at that price. If you are looking for a relief press check out
http://www.briarpress.org/ their classifieds have a number of presses for
sale. Also look at http://vandercookpress.info/ the SP15 is fairly common
and is very functional. Again, it depends on what process of printing you
want to do. Leon

I have two tabletop proof presses. The small roller has been
effective for wood engravings, woodcuts, and linocuts, in my
experience. I highly recommend buying one if you can find
one.....but not at the price suggested! You can find them for
$150 -$200. Check the condition of the roller before you buy,
though!

With the coming anniversary of 9/11 perhaps the Baren community can come
together and dedicate either a formal exchange or a special print project
to the event and victims of 9/11.......format can be anything we come up
with....individual prints, collaboration print, book format, or a mix of
prints, poems, letters, etc.....

Just want to put it out there for discussion........Any thoughts or
interest ?

thanks.......Julio Rodriguez

Julio

I love the idea, perhaps a book. Each person signed up has to do a page re; 9/11.
Somehow perhaps we could get it in a few important places like the N.Y.C library , etc.
I would so like to be involved in this one.

Now would be the time to start so everyone could put his best foot forward.

Jeanne, our 911 portfolio is already in the NYC Public Library Print
Collection and also in the virtual National 911 memorial :

Julio,
I think this is indeed a worthwhile idea. Maybe we can call it "Survivors", that
is pretty broad

Yes it is THE NYC Public Library Print Collection, 5th Ave.
I have a heart-felt letter from the Curator Roberta Waddell about our 911
woodblock prints which she acquired in '02.
I would be happy to type and send the letter in the body of an e-mail.
(My scanner isn't working; a big problem which I'll try to have fixed as
soon as possible.

Subject: Mystique Series - #7 keyblock done
Posted by: Dave Bull

The insect keyblock is now done:

Oops! Upside down! Let's turn it over ...

That's exactly the same image just rotated 180 degrees ... Funny how our brains interpret them differently - always assuming that the modelling of shadows is determined by light falling from 'above' ... Wonder why? :-) (And I wonder what infants 'see', before their brains have learned to handle this kind of processing?)

And let's have a closeup (millimeters on the scale):

(That last one clicks up to a considerably larger enlargement than the others ...)

I've now moved on to the colour blocks, but this afternoon there will be more 'disturbance'; another reporter/photographer combination is coming over. They are from the magazine 'Edogaku', which is difficult to translate - it could have a nuance of 'Interesting Edo', or 'Having a Good Time in Edo', or things along that line. They have a few sample pages of a recent issue online, and at least this one looks a bit more promising than the Playboy episode!

Subject: West Bay

Have been having another go at white-line printmaking. This is a small port on the Dorset Coast called West Bay. There is still a fishing fleet there, and I hope to be creating more images from the area.

Am finding it all hard going at the moment, probably the usual autumn blues as I wonder why I am not living in a place with no winter. The printmaking challenge helps to keep me going. Hope all well out there!
