Good Morning Baren
I spent the last few days at the Urban Sketchers World Wide first ever symposium
as it was here in Portland at PNCA, a local art college.

It was fun and tiring and I learned I have forgotten a bit. Three days of
sketching from 9-5 was daunting and frustrating and liberating and boy was I
ready for that glass of wine with dinner.
I am in that group shot on the left way in the back.... at any rate it was an
eye opener, I had forgotten how much fun it was to sit and draw, I have sort of
gotten out of the habit. So by the next symposium, which is in Lisbon, I might
have a few sketch books filled with passable drawings. It was really fun and all
started by a guy who works at the Seattle Times and did a blog for sketchers a
couple of years ago...people were there from Spain, Western Africa, all over the
USA, Portugal, France, Singapore and so on. I think South America was the only
continent not represented.
Spend a little time on this blog...it was just hugely fun and so many of the
artists are actually making a living with their sketching. A total surprise.

Barbara, how inspiring! I want to get out my sketchbooks right now
and go out to the park and draw. You are so right that if you don't
practice, your skills will suffer. One of my painting teachers
(portrait painting) said she believed her skills would always stay
with her, so she stopped drawing while raising her children and was
surprised when she got back to drawing that she needed to relearn what
came so easily to her before. Draw every day! I am giving advice
that I don't even follow, myself, but after seeing those photos at the
sketching blog, I feel recommitted! Thank you, Barbara.
