Ellen, your sister's idea to make a set of postage stamps from your
exchange print was brilliant! What a wonderful gift. And I too would
be happy to offer you my mailing address :)

Audley, I call any print "original" if an artist has created and
printed it herself, as opposed to a mechanical and/or automated
process. But explaining all this to the average person is usually a
losing battle. Most people either like or don't like a piece of art
and only maybe sort of care how it was made. Marilynn's post about
"stamping" really struck me, because that *is* in essence what we do
when we make a relief print. Maybe I'll start calling my work "wood
stamps" or "woodblock stamps." It would eliminate that pesky "print"
word altogether!

best,
Annie

hello bareners

some thots for the minimalists among us:

for my year of the tiger print-
which is a gold cut linoleum block-
i mounted it to a scrap piece of pine
with DUCT TAPE
then i duct taped the pine board itself
to my printing surface -glass-
and have at it-i dont use a press

i have taped linoblocks like this that
last for years-(you have to to use the GOOD duct tape tho) ;-)

in my years of doing art shows in Maine
people called the prints 'stamps' a lot
and most believe the block is pressed down on the paper
probably from doing potato prints as kids
at least it shows that they know what a print is!

this is your classic "teachable moment'
i always just say YES ! one could do it that way-
but it works better if you put the paper onto the block
then rub it and pull it off
hence the term "pulling a print"-which most seem to have heard before

folks who have worked in commercial printing early on
are very appreciative
i had a 99 yr old woman tell me
"i know what that is-i was a printer"
i find by refering to the block as a "template"
the idea is best conveyed to the" un-artschooled"

artists in other mediums get this also-
my friend who paints very highly skilled and accurate wildlife on rocks
always laughs when people say-"i LOVE your decals"

It probably would be best if everyone posts on the forum in English.
The long post from Eusebi Subiros needs some translation. Sorry, I
can't do that, but if anyone else can, please feel free to give it a
try. Thanks!

Greetings Bareners,

The weather was too severe to be in the studio in February, but I did
manage a reduction woodprint based on a decorative, Romanesque idea of
birds eating grapes in a vineyard.

Hello fellow woodcut artist. I am traveling in a couple weeks to
Barcelona to make some prints and I was wondering
1 has anyone been stopped for packing graphic chemical lithographic
ink on the plane and
2 does anyone know of an art supply store in Barcelona that carries
printmaking supplies?
thanks for your time, Bridget Henry

Another solo exhibition of my work opened last night with a one-hour slide
lecture by yours truly (movies and photos and lecture). I was SO warmly
received and almost everyone stayed awake the entire hour!

Here's video of a gallery walk-through with the director, Rebecca Miller a
couple hours before the opening. I think she did a fantastic job hanging
the show and... Well, aside from having had one two many martinis at dinner
with the arts faculty last night, it just all went so wonderfully well!
YAY!!!

Let me know if you like em - mostly the usually big and small woodcuts and
giant drawings - a bit of new work included...

I can't offer any experienced advice about traveling with inks but I would suggest that you check that cobalt dry is allowed on the plane and if there is a prohibition on any of the pigments like cadmium and cobalt in the E.U.

Have fun and post pics,
Eli

Working on a sketch for my reduction block.  Only three colors to work with, so I'm thinking secondary colors.

This is the second composition.  Still working on that.  The basic elements are there.  Something for the Steampunk community.  ;- ]
