I have said this one before. I use the veggie oil and follow up with
baby wipes, when cleaning up oil based inks. Since the husband has
not hooked the water to my sink I needed something that would work
without water(or minimal water). I do have running water in other
parts of the house but prefer to keep the messy ink in the studio as
much as possible. Over time I find my brayers need a deep cleaning
and that is when I use lava soap and water.

As far as warping of wood, some woods will warp easier than others.
Recently we discussed poplar. I had bought some and found it did
warp, but turned them over and laid them flat and they went straight
again. Your wood will take in water, in moka hanga it takes
experience and practice to get the amount right. You certainly don't
need to saturate your plates. Others on this forum can tell you about
woods better than I can. Personally I have never experienced a major
problem with warping and have done both the hanga process and oil
based inks. You do use the sam plate over and over in reduction
printing and I have only done this with oil based inks. Guess now
that I am back home in the Baja and almost totally settled in I will
have to get busy and try this process with my water pigments.

I did manage to get to the Hiromi store in Santa Monica when I was there
over Thanksgiving. It was very seductive to be surrounded by so much!! Best
to get their brochure. 310-988-0098.


I usually print on very thin paper . They have plenty in all weights and
didn't have a list to give me of what papers would be on sale the next
week.. I asked the sales person.

In the past I have sent a sample of a paper I liked to NY Central I
didn't know what is was or where I bought it .They sent me the nearest samples
so I could choose. That worked well for me.

Years ago I got a package of 10 different papers, 12"x18", from Yasutomo &
Co., San Francisco,CA 94111.:
Hosho, Unryu, Kozo, thin type and thick. That might help some decide
among papers.

Do not forget that Graphic Chemical donated paper for our 911 Firemen's
Benefit Woodblock Print Exhibit in 2002

There is a selection of 40 "Prints for Peace" from the 2008 collection that are currently
on display in the California Bay Area...

IF you did enter pieces in 2008, then check the pictures on the website
and see if your print has been included. (There are at least 9 Baren Artists included.)

Great info, Marilynn. As a husband who tends to put off those household chores, I would suggest that you pile all of your brayers and such in the bathroom sink. He'll get the message.

I don't know if he'll hook up the water, of course. But he will get the message!

This is off topic and I apologize, but I want to see if any of you who
participated in the Printmakers Online War and/or Peace Exchange from 2002
can help me out. I am displaying the color lithograph print titled "Erebus"
from the exchange in an upcoming exhibit at Spokane Falls Community College
Fine Arts Gallery. I have lost the colophon and cannot identify the artist
from the signature on the print.
Any help in identifying the artist would be appreciated.
