I agree that those ideas would be a great benefit but getting them into practice is a whole other can of worms.  If I could support myself on art income alone, I would be more than happy to volunteer to make it happen but like most artists 40 hours out of the week I'm at a day job thinking about the prints I'd rather be making. :)

I'd like to echo Julio's comments a while ago about Dave Bull's fantastic
Rich Media eBook, 'My First Print'.

I had the pleasure of offering a small contribution to the project with a
few illustrations and a cartoon version of Boots the cat, and in the process
realised just how many kinks I'd developed in every stage of my printmaking
as a result of learning to do woodblock prints on my own, without a tutor to
guide me in the right direction.

Dave's eBook isn't just for those who want to try their first woodblock
print, it's an invaluable treasure trove of information. Dave refers to this
book as covering all the basics. I wish I'd had this a couple of years ago
when I started! I'm already going to apply what I've learnt to the printing
stage of the prints I'm currently working on.

This eBook is gold dust, and only $7.50! Please don't be afraid of the
technology, it's very easy, and well worth it.

Mark writes:
"On a similar theme, a lot of Baren printmakers now have their own Etsy
shop site (or personal web shop on their own website). What would members
think about bringing all that info onto the Baren site somewhere? With
Etsy it’s possible to generate little ‘Etsy minis’ (I have one on my
blog), a custom sized box showing a number of items for sale which can be
clicked on to take you to that item or shop."

I think from time to time the subject of having Baren sponsor a page for
members to display and sell their work has been discussed....certainly
Etsy has been
talked about quite a bit and there are probably other good models out
there to emulate. The 'way' to go about it is a bit cloudy.....let's hear
some suggestions and
those that have experience selling online please speak up pro or against.

thanks...Julio

Yes, it's embarrassing for me to look at some of that stuff now ...
pages that I made more than _ten_ years ago (when this was still my
own site) are _still_ sitting there!

A major overhaul/cleanup/refresh/update is long long overdue, and I
think any and all ideas for how to go about it would be welcome.

Thanks to those who have sent feedback on the book, both here on
[Baren] and directly to me. I now _really_ regret that I didn't make
that thing a decade ago! (Although the technology just wasn't there,
of course ...)

And I'm envious now of anybody just getting started in this craft ...
about the amount of information they have available to them all over
the place. But I wonder if it really will help improve the overall
level of quality of the prints being made ... ?

Dave,
This is truly amazing.....I was not at the actual beginning but pretty close, right after exchange 1 happened. It seems like a very very fast 10 years. And I am guilty of not having a photo on the member page...good grief. How lazy can you get? Or maybe that is how busy can you get.

I made prints with 50 5th graders earlier today....we are going to do an art installation using block prints the children carve along with words and strips of wood printed on fabric. They are studying the Tillamook Forest and the fabric panels will hang from the ceiling on dowels and it will feel like walking through trees (metaphorically of course) when we are done. The are not really old enough to carve wood, but we have a commercially boughten wooden alphabet we will use for the words and they will do lino for the images with the long thin strips of wood interspersed to sort of hold it all together. (thank you McClains for the scraps of wood) So maybe I am fostering the next group of woodblock printers....once they see how easy it is to make art they will want to keep doing it! I love working with them, they are so funny. One little guy in my first grade class asked me if I thought he could sell his print and get rich and famous. He is 6..... I said,
sure, why not? Anything is possible.
Cut and print
My best to all

I concur! But wait, there's more.

I have read/seen tons of stuff on how to make woodblock prints and Dave's
work is an absolute treasure. Not only is this an amazing learning
experience, but it is entertaining and so full of tiny bits of information
you will just sit there and read the whole thing over and over. Well, I did,
anyway.

Photos are clear and just amazing, the videos will give you 100
aha-experiences, explanations either written or audio are crystal clear and
answer the million questions that some of us had for a long time. I'm not
really a workshop person and love learning on my own; this is like having
Dave in your studio. I opened the rich-book on my laptop and sat in the
studio, recovering my baren as I watched the video.

Anyway, just get it, you'll love every delightfully crafted page.
