I'd like an update on the Summit 2010, also. I've scheduled my hand
surgery for mid-January. Thinking that Jan, Feb. & Mar. would be the
slowest time and a good time to be "down". It sounds like I will be
pretty much out of commission for two months, and then in physical
therapy for another. I'm hoping I won't miss the Summit, but won't be
traveling while I have a mitt the size of Ohio. sigh. Has anyone else
had joint surgery for arthritis, especially for the thumb joints? How
did it go, how long were you down and out, what did you do while out
of commission. It is so hard to think of being inactive for such a
long time.

;-)

Cheers ~

Thanks for you comments at my blog, Bobbi. I'm pasting in my reply
from there here, so excuse the redundancy. I briefly saw your posts
here at the Baren and was going to add my two cents in on my
experience with Akua Kolors, since I just began experimenting with
them. I think if you enjoy painting, you'll enjoy working with them.
I use both the intaglio and bottle versions for brushing on. I go
through allot of blending medium and tend to use it instead of
extender. I enjoy using transparent color, so I make them quite thin.
But they seem to soften, almost bleed, if more than two layers are
applied on top of one another when wet. Probably my excessive use of
mediums. So it's leading me to traditional Moku Hanga using dry
pigments mixed in water. Ultimately my love for organics; watercolor
and wood, will win out.

I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing your experience with Akua
Kolors.

Thanks again for your input!

Kris

Thank you, Kris. I did notice after I posted my comment that you're
a member here.

Yes, I was excited to hear that people are using the Akua colors to
paint onto their blocks. And I do love painting, so maybe I've
finally found a way to combine the two.

I did order some transparent base and black and brown inks, so will
be starting out with those.

My intention was to print with the black/brown, let it dry, then
hand-color later on. But, if I can paint the colors onto the block,
that might work better.

Thank YOU for responding....I cannot wait to get these and try them out.

Greetings Bareners,

I'm back in action for the autumn with new ideas.

For several years I have been studying fantasy creatures from the Viking/
Anglo Saxon era for transcribed woodblock prints. This has sometimes
involved looking in German museums and I have often brushed against Native
American culture whilst moving through the ethnological galleries. It wasn't
until this year when I walked through a small American Indian exhibition
that I saw the Acoma cockerel and the Kwakiutl thunder bird that immediately
fired my imagination.
