I’m thinking that some believe this is replacing Baren or in lieu of....
I see it as a addition. If some want to go there ... so be it.
Some have used FB features in the National organization ... CARFAC
here in Canada ... with limited success suiting their purpose.
I restate my suggestion... develop the Baren to include images and
Video... end of need to introduce another forum.
Facebook serves a need for some and turns others off.... like
Charles... oh and Graham.
Not in a Twitter....

I'm using Facebook quite a lot, but I don't think we should move Baren
Forum to Facebook. There are a lot of other things that the Forum
offers that are hard to move to Facebook (baren encyclopedia,
galleries of former exchanges, shopping for supplies). Besides, let's
say that everyone moves to Facebook, the original website would die
pretty soon.
However, Facebook does make it easy for people to keep in touch. I
know there are a bunch of people from the forum that are also on
Facebook, which is good, it does make it easy to follow what they're
doing. I wouldn't say no to having a group on Facebook, something like
"Members of the Baren Forum" or something like that to make it clear
that this is not the Baren Forum. Whether that's useful or not, I
don't know. I would not want to duplicate the functions that the
mailing list here already has (announcements, etc.), but it could
function as a social thing. It could also be used to attract other
Facebook users to the Baren Forum.

Hi, All - This an interesting discussion. I have been using Facebook for a short time. It is a good way to keep in touch with art people in my former home town. I like to post family, friends and art doings to friends and colleagues. The photo albums are a great way to show art - there's room for text - and comments. It seems like a very versatile medium with immediacy built in. Sincerely, Carol Montgomery, Helena, MT
if im understanding dan correctly, hes not suggesting that we move baren forum to facebook. instead hes saying we could put a baren group on facebook along with everything else that we have available. i dont think there is any cost to doing this, and it seems like just one more very immediate way to chat with other members
if this is true then i vote yes

My daughter got me to join face book. I don't find the ads annoying
but almost never use it. I vote no to Face book. We can post pics
through the blog.

I'm with Maria and Barbara on this one, no to facebook. I am on facebook
and my wall can get very busy with all the socializing I do in it with
friends and family. And that's my point; facespace (as my cousin calls it)
is a social networking site similar to myspace (with fewer ads). I'm also
in a Professional Networking site called LinkedIn which I keep strictly
professional contacts in. Again it is a Networking site. To me Baren is a
Professional Forum - not networking - but a place for professional peers to
exchange ideas and technique with varying levels of passion and expertise.

I don't care for the idea of Baren on FB. The site we have is a good one and we can reach out from there with Youtube videos, as needed and if we want to reach one another on-line, we know how to do it without the additional site.

I don't understand the big deal of having a FB group for members that want
to OPT IN. I don't think anybody was suggesting that it replace this, just
as a side thing for those interested. If you don't like it don't join, don't
kill it for the rest of us who ARE interested.
I'm part of the no to Facebook analog types. Baren is enough to keep up
with.
Nobody can keep anyone on the Baren forum from cranking up a Facebook group, or a Twitter group, or a Yahoo group. If that is what some of you want to do, then by all means, GO FOR IT!!!! You do not need anyone's permission, least of all mine, to do so. In fact, three or four of you can crank up three or four different groups .... maybe everyone who wants a Baren Facebook group should just start their very own Baren Facebook group ... maybe call them BarenA, BarenB, BarenC, and BarenD ... whatever. It seems to me the issue here has nothing whatever to do with inhibiting anyone ... it is NOT a question of personal freedom.
The big problem with starting up additional "associated" groups on
Facebook or whatever is that it will tend to dillute the discussion and
exchange of information. How many will really go to the trouble of
posting the same information on several different sites? Those who are
on a Facebook group and also on the good old Baren will not want to
read two copies of the same stuff. But those who are on good old Baren
might well be interested in something someone posts on the other site
but can't be bothered to post on good old Baren. And those who are on a
Facebook list might well be interested in stuff posted just to good old
Baren but not to Facebook. Do you really want to have to go to two or three different
groups to get the information you now get just from the Baren?
I for one will stick to the Baren list as it is now. My vote is against trying to move the whole Baren forum over to the Facebook venue, or to any other.
As I said, it seems to me that the issue is NOT a question of personal freedom ... the main issue is the dillution of the information pool.
Cheers ...... Charles
Wow, I am sorry I ever posted my original observation. I did not mean
to cause all this contention.
Please forgive me and pretend I never posted my original observation.
Please.
Just thought it was funny, we are artist who create using an old medium.
And now with Skype, FB, Twitter, etc... we use email.
That's all.
Hahahahaha.
My vote is No
to Facebook.
Peace,
Eileen
I loved it Dan, It was an exciting bunch of getting excited about
nothing.
As I said right off... this was not to replace anything.... it was
to add some features that are not available on the Baren... images
and Video. Not sure what the harm is in that.
Dan expressed this from the beginning and I suggested an remedy...
Lets wait to see what comes of my suggestion and if it is do-able.
Cost and expertise is required and I wonder if these are available.
As the saying goes... if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it... However as
we don’t have the niceties of image and video, one could say it is
BROKE.... ( Wow, I am sorry I ever posted my original observation. I did not
> mean to cause all this contention.
My vote is NO to facebook.
We already have a Blog from Baren and I was happy to post on it.
