Thanks for inventing the registration board, Barbara! So far I'm
liking it. Won't be printing with it until next week, but I used it
to paste hanshita for the color blocks into position and it worked
like a charm.

Paul Furneaux's work is fantastic! Glad to see him back. Thanks for
that link, Mike.

Well, I did not invent it, just got Richard to make them. I think I first saw one from Matt Brown years ago. He talked about it on the Baren and I had him send me one so I could see it. He had a way of clamping the blocks in for printing that worked well but you always had to use the same size block. I think these boards have been around for a very long time in Japan, just maybe without the board. I think it was just an L of wood but the same idea.

I too am glad that Paul is back in business. It is a terrible thing to lose everything in your studio. In another way it frees you to begin again. Artists are so determined. I bet within a week he was making more art. We are a very very different breed.
My best to all

My husband made one of these L- boards for me 30 years
ago................I thought everyone used them.
I submitted a drawing for a print table with an L-board to the Baren
encyclopedia long time ago. The table was practical for me in making
very large prints.

Here is a link to Elizabeth's article (Baren's Encyclopedia) describing
her registration method and table.

Every so often I come across an artist or see a related woodcut article
and say.... hey, wait a minute, that person used to be a barener !!!! I
wonder what they are up to these days.....

So was the case today when I ran into two familiar names.....Andrea Rich
and Carl Homstad.....both active members here on the Baren list back about
ten years or so.

If you ever seen Andrea's wildlife prints you would have to agree that
they are beautiful and so full of detail, to me very reminiscent of the
animal prints done
by Toshi Yoshida back in the 50's & 60's. Located in Santa Cruz California
and working in small editions of around thirty prints many of her earlier
images have long sold out. Andrea is also doing animal sculptures
(bronzes) with the same success. Make sure to check out her website link
for some great woodcuts.

Iowa artist Carl Homstad is another blast from the past. Woodcut artist,
painter and muralist his work focus on naturalistic landscapes. His
website is at:

sorry about the multiple posts today...fat fingers !

enjoy the links.......Julio

Hi.

I just rec'd two emails. One from The Baren, a second one all by itself.
Apparently we've been spammed by P. P. Kocak with an address grabber via the
listserve. Oops! I'll be blocking my email from the latter. Hope that The
Baren can do the same.

Best.
