money but would be a service to printmakers trying to educate the
public.
If there could be a pamphlet defining the various types of hand pulled
prints, from etchings to collagraphs to woodcuts to, wood engravings
to screenprinting - all the ways of putting ink, by hand on to paper,
that members could hand out, it could keep us from having to reinvent
the wheel every time the subject is confronted. It could even be a pdf
file that we individually print out. You know the theme - Prints not
reproductions. But it would take someone to write it. Perhaps it would
only need an editor or someone to collect the information and assemble
it.
Maybe something like this already exists. If so I'd happily pay for
some. Oh, I guess we were talking about spending funds, not increasing
them, weren't we?

is going to do as much as the expense and time to make up and print a
document. Here in Victoria, British Columbia there are and have been
numerous articles available regrading this and efforts to educate the
public.
There has been in depth articles about the deception (Huge prices) of
giclee prints. To no avail. Saw some the other day that were priced
at 2500.00 Considering you can buy these things for $20.00 a square
foot it is a little infuriating. The blah blah blah on my web site
has been published...

We could do short takes on how to prepare and tie a cover on a hon baren, choose papers for different techniques, colours, how to choose, mix and apply to a block, what is needed in a carving tool, how to sharpen a knife, a "C" gouge and everybody's favorites, a "V" and an "U" gouge or 'liner' gouge. Stone choices, wet or oily, shapes and how to maintain them are important points that could be done as well.
Personally, I'd like to see an on going Baren series detailing both Japanese and Western hand-printing methods, water-based, oil-based, as well as alternative methods, for example, using water-colour crayons directly on a block and then hand printing the block(s) onto damped papers.
Traditional white-line prints are just another type of printing that some here practice and something that can serve as an introduction or gateway form for new printmaker/artists.
Eventually, when we feel hand-printing methods are well covered, we could start showing how woodcuts and wood-engravings are done on presses and expand the one-point lessons as needed.

This was a ‘quickie’ test of painting on paper using a Paasche Flow Pencil and Golden liquid acrylic paints. I first toned the paper using dilute sumi and a bit of prussian blue pigment, applying it quickly with a sponge until the paper seemed about mid-value. Then I applied white paint over the paper, then black paint and… VOILA! Seems to have worked pretty well during this small test… About 14 hours of actual painting plus several days of preparation to figure out all the gazillion lines! OH! And this is an image of my Father!
The painting nears completion as black paint is applied over tinted paper and white paint.
