The Northern Print Biennale 2009, developed in
partnership with culture10, will be the first
major project concentrating on printmaking in
the UK for over 20 years. Through an extensive
programme of events across NewcastleGateshead,
the Biennale aims to reward and promote the very
best in British and international printmaking.
The 2009 Print Awards will encourage a broad
spectrum of artists to gain exposure and exhibit
with other leading artists in their field. The
judges confirmed this year are Stephen Chambers
RA, Kip Gresham and Gill Saunders. This panel of
eminent artists, printmakers and curators will
select approximately fifty artists to exhibi t
in three major venues across Newcastle from June
to October 2009. Each selected artist will
exhibit at one of the following spaces: the
Hatton Gallery 26 June -- 15 August 2009, Laing
Art Gallery 4 July -- 4 October 2009 and
Northern Print from 26 June -- 4 October 2009.
The 2009 Print Awards is open to all British and
International artists whose work, or elements of
their practice, encounter print. Works in any
medium will be considered and the award is not
restricted to 2 or 3 dimensional work. Prizes
include a £5,000 cash prize, the V&A Print Prize
including website feature, Laing Art Gallery
Purchase Prize and the Nexus Art on Transport
Commission Prize, which includes a fee of £2,000
and expenses of up to £1,000

Southern Graphics Council Conference
March 25 -- 29, 2009
Columbia College Chicago and Anchor Graphics
will host the Southern Graphics Council's annual
printmaking conference exploring the artistic
and social currents found in printmaking
throughout the world.
Global Implications will feature exhibitions,
demonstrations, lectures, panel discussions,
collection viewings, and special events at over
40 locations around Chicago. Keynote speakers
include Kathan Brown, Enrique Chagoya, Anne
Coffin, and Jane Hammond.
