Carol Montgomery and others in search of meaning of Wabi Sabi and other
Japanese concepts:
There is a book Elements of Japanese Design--Key Terms for Understanding and
Using Japan's Classic Wabi-Sabi- Shibui Concepts by Boye Lafayette De Mente,
Tuttle Publishing.

It's soft cover, very illuminating, describing about 50 Japanese terms.

My art has often been thought of as Asian and now I know why.

Go with Musubi, what the current Baren discussion is about--focus on
creative energy.

Most stimulating and exciting to see such rich colours... I’m
thinking that it may be the transition to JPG imagery that has
intensified the colours... maybe yes - maybe no. Never the less the
number of colours are substantial as it the size of the prints....
Gordon Mortensen sure has a handle on colour harmony.... Autumn March
is quite an achievement. He has all the ingredience for a successful
image.... composition, path of vision, and colour harmony... those

Chen Qi (black/white). Quite mind boggling with 35 sections with
bokashi. If you enlarge the image and then go to http://www.gpsart.co.uk/exhib_artists/chenqi_lotus6.html
you will see the same image but somehow... (digital phenomena)
that is slightly different in colour, lovely warm greys... I much
prefer this colour sample to the one that appears on the - http://www.chinaprintart.cn/2009festival/2009amelie.html

By the way, I draw. 50% on paper, 50% on a pc. The 2 are becoming as
interchangeable as a pen and a pencil. I've just had 40yrs practice
with the
pencil, and only 8yrs drawing on a pc with a tablet. It's not about
what you
use, it's about what you do

Yes, that is exactly the way the two can be used to the advantage of
creativity.....
It is a marriage of sorts.

The computer alone and the push button printmaking is my hang up.....
which I have found, I am not alone in the thought process.

AlphabetHand-pulled Print Exchange. This is our third exchange

Theme: Road Trip

-Chose an available letter from the list, pick a Road Trip
that starts with that letter and make a print about your favorite
destination. (DO NOT include the letter in your print, just the fun Trip.)

Color: B/W or Color. Color is encouraged, but we love a good B/W image.

Image Size: At least 6" x 8" but no larger than 8.5" x 11"

Paper Size: Paper must be no larger than 8.5" x 11" It is OK if the
image bleeds off the edge of the paper.

Medium: Woodblock, Linoleum, Serigraph, Lithograph or Intaglio

Paper type: Any archival paper appropriate to your printing method
can be used.

Print Deadline: June 15, 2009
