Vinyl floor tiles certainly have their fans over here in the UK. The late Pamela Hughes used them for all of her late prints. Her backĀ  problems did not allow hand burnishing so she moved from wood to vinyl and printed them in her etching press. I have a draw full of times left in her studio - one day I will find time to try them out.

Pam had the idea from the marvellous John Lawrence who frequently works on vinyl - with superb results.

I love the work coming from Coffee Grinder Press but cannot find a link to sales - could you email it to me please?

Linda,

Our exchanges have a specific paper size. You can use any size image
you wish. DO NOT make your paper larger than the specified size, as
it makes it difficult to fit it into the cases. It is best to stick
to the paper size requirements as closely as possible, but our block
and image can be any size that will fit on the paper. Read the
requirements on the Baren site, they listed for you for each exchange.

Have been travelling thru southern Spain and only just caught up with the last month of postings. Gosh, I just love the energy.

On the back of my Open Studio exhibition I have been asked to give a talk on Japanese style woodblock printing to some local art clubs. I hope very much to participate in an all Moku hanga Exchange. This would give me a range of examples to show people the variety of work possible with the technique, as well as focussing my own mind as this will be the first time I will have put my toe in the water of an exchange. I hope I get accepted when the time comes.

There was a request for images of housing developments. There is a local development which has caused much comment, and which is sponsored by Charles Prince of Wales and his architectural forum. If you google Poundbury, Dorset or try www.poundbury.info there are scores of pictures and comments. Everyone in the area has an opinion about it, see for yourselves. It is not typical of UK developments tho'.

I just love this forum and the life and energy of you all. Like many others the David Bull site and this spinoff forum have been like an immense treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration. Keep it going.

SURE! (boy did my eyes light up)
umm...
if you have a question about purchasing any of the prints from coffee grinder press, just specify which one you'd like and we'll take care of business.
and the gallery i work through can take care of the purchases.
they don't have all of my work up, but they take credit cards (i don't have that option).

Gee, Shawn, I was listening. But I also heard someone else mention
buying lino from an Art Supply house; an expensive way to buy lino.

The flooring vinyl sample that you sent me is an interesting material
that carves quite nicely. It's nice to engrave a cross-hatching
without bits popping off the plate.

Clive

is anybody listening? annie was asking me what I use. i don't use
lino. i use floor vinyl. it's plastic. it has no burlap backing. Shawn

Graham,
Canada is lucky as they get some public support. I know it is expensive to mount an exhibit and do
a catalog having done them here in Portland for the last few years. Jury fees for artists are common
here and we just accept it as there is no public support for non profits. I think this fee is not out of
line, most shows charge 50 USA dollars as a jury fee and it goes to print the catalog and pay the juror. A
non-profit just cannot usually support this type of cost unless they have a lot of private funding.
As a supporter of the arts and non-profit galleries I am happy to pay the fee to keep them afloat, as without
them there will be few shows that cut the edge of new and innovative work.
I know artists are on the bottom rung financially and get asked all the time to support the arts, but if we
believe in the arts, we have to support what we believe in. This mission is our most important goal. I do not
want to start controversy over jury fees as I also wish there were some other way to support the cost of juried
exhibitions. Know that we have never come out ahead on one...they always cost more than they generate, sad but true.
My 2 cents worth
My best to all,
Barbara
