Regarding the smell from cobalt drier, have you considered that it
might be a chemical reaction between the plastic container and the
drier?
Plastic interacts with some chemicals and can cause things to go bad
over time. We had a bottle of vodka on our boat, in a plastic
container. We drink very little hard liquor, so, it had been there a
few years. On one of our club cruises my husband decided to mix
Bloody Marys for friends and used this vodka. They tasted terrible.
One of our friends asked how long we had had this bottle and if it was
plastic because the plastic will interact with the alcohol over time
and it goes bad. This does not happen if the alcohol is in glass.
Considering that someone already said that the cobalt will eventually
eat the plastic, perhaps, that is happening and causing a change in
your drier that gives off an offensive odor and perhaps it might even
make it more toxic.
