Yeah!! Things are getting back to normal and I can answer with a good
program. I would be interested in a chop.

I sent pictures of my 10 inch sq. image to a girl friend in the states. She
is an artist, not university trained, but does some oil paintings and tole
painting and other crafty things. I am not sure how to take this. She took
my print resized it and even changed it from square to 5x7 matted it and
framed it in a black frame. She also did that to another one I sent in the
same email. I am not pleased at all. Printer run on photo paper and
changing the format as well, how hideous!! But what can I do?? She is a
very special friend and she has already matted and framed it! She is so
special and is so good to us when we go to the city that I would have given
her an original. I guess I will not send friends like her pictures of my
artwork. She has been saying she would like to see more of my work, so I
sent her pictures of recent things, now I am sorry.

A word about sharpening your tools. I have said this before, but will say
it again, I was the worse tool person one could meet. I now sharpen my own
tools and what a difference it makes. When I lost the tip on my hanga
knife I took out my waterstone and sharpened it. Than I sharpened every
tool in my pouch. They sure are much much nicer to work with. It took a bit
to get the slant just right, but there is a lot of steel there, you can
learn to do this! If you can learn to carve and print you can learn to
sharpen a tool, it is not any more difficult.

Marilynn,

Your friend's method of "recycling" your art work struck a chord with
me. I used to mail proofs or goofs to a dear friend to show her what
I was working on until I visited her one day and found her home
decorated with my framed flops. I think all we can do is be grateful
that our work has brought some happiness to someone. It used to
bother me when people would proudly tell me how they liked to frame
the ink-jet cards of my prints and give them as gifts. Now I just
tell myself it's the universe's way to help me keep things in
perspective. It's only pigment on paper and if it gives meaning or
joy to someone, even in an a cheapened or altered state, then I
should just try to let it go. I'm still working on my feelings about
giclee prints. Well, maybe I'm still working on the other issues,
too. ; )

Happy Printing!

Alright, it looks like we have a good amount of people who want to get chops
done. I work on Friday. I will talk to mr. cui. If he feels uncomfortable
about getting commissioned outside of the museum, Than we will just workk
through the museum. I will scan some of his work and provide you all with
some Stone styles and sizes this weekend.
You can either design your own within the size of the face of your stone.
OR, we can work wtih Mr. Cui to write a few words in Chinese that say your
name or some other meaning that you enjoy.

I'l be in touch in a few days with details!

Lynita, Marilynn...............

Many of my friends and relatives have saved and framed my over fifty
years of Christmas cards.............early years original prints but,
now, computer prints. I love it...........even the other pieces
"recycled". What other desire could we have than the appreciation of
our audience.

Print on............E.B.Atwood

There aren't any rules for image v. paper size. You can make a full bleed if you want to. There's another web site if you want to learn about traditional Japanese printmaking. This is contemporary printmaking, just using non-toxic methods, for the most part.

Thanks, Jean. I didn't really mean in the traditional sense, more the
practical one -- if there's anything in the exchange that means we need
certain margins, etc. So I guess not!

There really isn't any standard for this and usually left up to the artist's
whim.

Some images work very well as a "bleed" or taking up the entire sheet.
For most of my work I prefer margins and sometimes very wide margins, due to
my obsession with hand-made paper.

A review of prior exchanges will reveal a variety of approaches, some of
them quite inventive.

And having said all that, this "almost square" paper size lends itself to
two of my favorites: 1)a square image and 2)an elongated image, vertical
orientation, with wider side margins (about 2 inches or 5 cm) than
top/bottom margin (1 inch 2.5 cm). But those are just my preferences.

Hello members,
I very much agree with the statement of Oscar. I am from a country,
where until 1989 the human rights were treated bad, including the right
to travel where you want.
Just this evening i arrived from the cinema with my wife and eldest son,
where we saw "The Wave" in the latest German version. Isn't there a
connection with "fools"?
I couldn't decide between the two themes - and I will nocht for this
time. Before taking part in a print exchange, let me follow the
discussions and take part in the exchange of opinions.
Best to all - Johnny

I just spent some time with the #34 gallery. Truly wonderful work, and congratulations to everyone!
I tried to post some comments to individuals, but my machine didn't want to send them. :o(
The colophon is outstanding for sure, Mary!

What a talented bunch!
Cheers,

Hi Oscar,

The forms should work now. I always forget to upload new addresses to a form
mail file so that you can send feedback to participants.
Sorry! I'm sure it will happen again :-)
