Guadalupe's suggestion that we do an exchange on the theme of Human
Rights or of Peace has kept coming back to me since I read it. It
would be very much in the spirit of (Western) printmaking to do
something along those lines; Western printmaking has a long,
illustrious history of commentary on political matters. Living as we
do in such political times it would be a challenge to you as
printmakers to make a statement on such politics.

Maria,
Being one I am strongly endorsing "FOOLS" as the theme for the next
exchange.t is the perfect theme for April 1. It has so many
possibilities I can hardly contain the excitement. LOL

Visa, (re/ ball bearing baren)
Try a little WD-40 and see if that helps, if not -- return it. It
must be defective, and should be replaced.

I'm hoping this finally goes through. I have been answering and
distributing my wealth of knowledge for weeks, and none of it has
made it to the Digest. More problems with Comcast.duds. As for the
wealth, it has dropped considerably along with the current market trend.

One of my little gems was to use just plain old alcohol for clean up
vs. Pampers diaper wipes, which have to be much more expensive and
probably have a similar product in them. You can't beat good old
rubbing alcohol for cleaning up. And, Viva paper towels last longer
than any of the others, especially the bargain brands.

Amanda, I can't remember if I answered your question about layering color.

As I print using thin layers of that are brushed onto the block and then printed on dampened, thin Japanese paper,
most of the color is absorbed into the paper rather than staying on top of the paper, so I have found that it is fine to
keep on printing. In this method, everything is wet on wet (but it is important to remember not to have too much
wetness either on the block or the paper, the paper is like a damp sponge).

Sometimes I do let the paper "rest" for a while and let the dampness even out if I have a large flat area which has been
printed. I have my stack of damp paper inside two damp blotters and surrounded by a plastic bag or plastic tarp or the like.

If you are rolling color onto the block and printing in a western manner, that is a different procedure, and
I'm sure that especially Barbara Mason could tell you about that, as she has worked w/Akua Kolor a LOT.
I also use pigment dispersions for this method, and they are less sticky in consistency than the Akua Kolor
and they dry faster.

Hi Imin,

I'd be very interested in having a chop made, please "sign me up" to any group approach; but I'd like to echo another post by dealing in such a way that doesn't cause Mr. Cui any conflict with his museum arrangement and commitments.

I really like my rubber stamp chops which I made (and can be seen on my prints from Exchanges 33 and 34), but a crafted stone chop would be especially nice.

Bareners,

Human Rights and/or Peace as a value can be articulated through or within
any of the other themes. People are free to make statements about their own
perspectives in all themes.

As a theme, I would vote for VOYAGES.
I would be foolish not to agree to a theme of THE FOOL, THE HARLEQUIN, as
well. (Second choice)
