now that i have finished my rat, i looked through the archives of past years and didn't see my pig in the "year of the pig" archives. i'm not sure who updates the archives, but whoever it is if you didn't get one from me please let me know and i will send one your way so it can be with the others.
i also want to say thanks to all of you who have sent rats, it is always such a pleasure to get some snail mail other than a bill at my door! keep 'em coming!

Hello everyone,

I've made some progress in my struggle to print large areas smoothly, but
I'm not there yet. I'm feeling better about controlling water, pigment and
paste on the brush and the block, and my new korokoro baren makes it much
easier than the plastic disk baren. I can now get the same color to print
evenly on a couple different papers, not on others. I suspect that the
heavier paper gets too dry over the course of printing, but not in a uniform
way. Some areas on each sheet are adequately wet, but others are not. The
behavior is quite consistent across sheets. Does anyone have some tricks on
keeping paper evenly damp despite unevenness in its loss of moisture? Should
I remoisten slightly and let it sit overnight to distribute correctly?

Alex,

I've found, in our sometimes less than 10% humidity, that keeping a damp
cloth between the top of the 'yet to be printed pile' and its plastic cover
helps. The back of each sheet, just before it is taken out to be printed,
gets a few moments against the damp cloth.

Four Oceans Press is still having sign-ups for their third Hand-pulled Print exchange.
There are 7 more spots available and we really would love to have a full set... There is
still time to sign-up and pull a full set before the turn in deadline - if you can
pull 27 prints in the next 36 days then please sign up!!! I hope you will consider
joining this Spring 2008 Print Exchange.

Theme: SPRING

Color: B/W or Color. Color is encouraged, but we love a good b/w image.

Image Size: At least 6” x 8” but no larger than 8.5” x 11”.

Paper Size: Paper must be no larger than 8.5” x 11”. It is OK if the image bleeds
off the edge of the paper.

Medium: Woodblock, Linoleum, Serigraph, Lithograph or Intaglio

Paper type: Any archival paper appropriate to your printing method can be used.

Print Deadline: April 15, 2008
