Lynita, Your turkey print is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Ongoing paper issue. Okay, if you want all the same paper, cut
professionally, than you will have to mail it to me. DHL to Baja will cost
around $40. or more, depending. I am not paying that just in postage, to
get my paper. In the states I have a wide choice in paper, here I am lucky
to get anything acid free. It is not about price, it is about availability!
Remember, we are a diverse, international group. Also, in my experience,
the more rules you make the less participation you get. You will lose
people like me and Guadalupe, who just can not get the supplies, although we
will both use quality paper. (I love to just touch this paper) I am certain
her work is outstanding. Also, this is not about being, just, a
professional. The wonderful thing about our exchanges is that we have work
at all levels. When I did my first exchange my work was not nearly what it
is today. We have always been open to allow people to join in, have fun and
we have watched many a printmaker grow from amateur level to professional
level. That is what makes this group so exciting. That is why the museums
who house the work are teaching museums, they can watch and see the levels
of experience. We want to encourage folks to participate, all levels of
expertise have always been included, we are not an exclusive group.
Although, we are an intense group.
We learn and help one another.
Oh, paper types have not beem an issue, ever. Most of the paper I have
received has been very high quality, leave it alone!

Hi folks, my 2 cents re the paper for exchanges. I agree with the folks who feel that everyone should use acid-free paper.
Not all acid-free paper will break the bank. For example, Stonehenge is quite cheap, acid-free and works for a number of
printmaking processes.
Acidic paper being next to archival paper does not sound like a good idea and might destroy some other people's prints
that they devoted a great deal of time and commitment to making.

Acid-free paper isn't a cure-all. It helps *if* you get the rest of the
archival process right, which isn't always a trivial exercise. Otherwise it
just helps delay the inevitable.
It's not just the paper. There was also mention of maintaining the high level
seen in the print exchanges. Great if that's the case. To be encouraged, etc.
But where does that leave the newbie or someone who'll never excel but tries
hard? A dunce group? I much prefer what's also been said -- that the exchanges
encourage learning, fun and some kindred spirit. And if you get some memorable
prints out of the process, that's grand.

Thanks all who answered the paper size question for Exchange #36. I've been
a tweet busy and didn't get the chance to respond.
The Baren Exchanges have been a grand example of good will and good
printmaking, in my humble opinion, also an excellent illustration of the
true spirit of printmaking. There is an obligation on the part of the
participants to do the best they can, simply, however they want to define
that.
There has been periodically some gentle criticism on quality and so-called
"professionalism", to which the answer has always been: there are plenty of
"professional" printmaking organizations "out there" holding exchanges and
calls for entries with rules and strict standards aplenty.
This is not to say that sloppy prints and loose regulations are, or ever
have been, the norm. But that Baren, as an international all volunteer
organization, is more akin to a group of very enthusiastic printmaking
friends exchanging gifts than it may be to a more strict academic
organization. Acid-free paper should be the norm and I think anyone who
respects themselves and their work as a printmaker would always choose an
acid free paper. I haven't really noticed any gross offenses on that score,
although when I receive the exchanges I am totally enthralled with the
imagery and the diverse techniques and don't really have the gumption to
take my acid pen out of the drawer.
As exchange manager let me assure you that there are absolutely no plans to
furnish paper for exchanges, and if I may interject a humorous comment, as a
paper lover I can think of nothing more boring than a collection of diverse
creative ideas printed on exactly the same paper. We encourage creativity
and enthusiasm and love for the craft.
I am going to, by golly, "catch up" the exchanges and with the help of
Mike-the-enforcer-Lyon, we are looking very good for getting #35 almost on
the deadline. I know Mary Kuster is probably collating as we speak so #34
will also soon be returned promptly.
Oh, and #32 is now online! Only one more to go, thank you Angee for the
perfect formatting of the images. I will upload 33 in the next few days.
