My 2 cents re sizing:
I think it is important for Baren to keep to our print sizing requirements.

Since the beginning it has been no problem for our members who are from all
over the world to understand what measurements in inches are. It is
necessary for storage and for possible exhibits to keep to the measurements. Also it
is professional for any group effort.

What if your paper does not allow for 4 prints per sheet? Fit what you can
on it and save the remainder of the paper for another project. That's what
many of us have done.

When I was organizer I appreciated that all the prints were the same size
and when hung and exhibited together they all fit neatly into the same clear
plastic bag. And they sold.

Patt, great idea. If I can not use the nice acid free paper with a water
mark on it because it will trim out slightly smaller then I will use bond
paper. Actually, I have a large packet of computer printer paper, that will
work! Thanks for the thought. Since we do not have to use acid free that is
my option. Maybe I should use paper bags, not that I can get anything but
plastic ones here!
I live in an area where getting paper is really hard to find, guys, be just
a little flexible, please.

I suggest that it's a simple courtesy to international readers to include both
units. And one minute spent on the calculator by the co-ordinator removes any
scope for error or excuse on the part of entrants.

It's easy to google a conversion table. I agree, David, that
it's inclusive to give the size in both units.

I can't believe that the 1/8th inch will be a problem for
anyone! There's been at least that much variation in every
exchange I've coordinated.

I have greater issue with including a non-archival paper in the
exchange. That paper will damage and discolor the other prints
in the exchange. If that kind of paper is used, it seems that
participants should be notified...er, warned.

Thank you Mike for clarifying the paper size situation. I have a similiar
situation with my paper, it will not be inches short, just a fraction. I
have choosen a very lovely paper with a water mark, it feels to be about 90
lb and I am certain it is acid free. It very very difficult to get good
papers here in Baja and I was thrilled to find this. My prints will come to
those in this exchange on this nice nice paper, not bond paper.

Paper seems to make a huge difference in how a print turns out. I had mail
odered my paper for the last exchange I did. I wish I could have seen it
first because I was not pleased. It was adequate, but far from wonderful.
This time I have found something much nicer and most assuredly want to use
it. I do not know if others have had this experience. One time I had a
block that I was certain had a really nice image on it. I printed it on
solid white paper in both brown and black in and it just did not work. Than
I tried a speckled thin brown paper and I had a wonderful print. We most
certainly want the nicest papers we can get in our exchanges and papers that
work with our images.

Maybe paper for the exchanges should have a restriction of at least
"acid-free," if not archival. An exchange at this level (in my view: high)
should have nothing in it that would fade or rot in a few years and probably
damage others' prints in the process. If a participant finds it impossible
to afford acid-free printmaking paper, perhaps we could have a
scholarship-type fund available that would supply paper to anyone needing a
bit of help. As for size of paper, the professional portfolios I've seen
have had the paper supplied to the printmakers in advance, already cut to
size. All prints, no matter whether etchings, woodcuts or any other medium,
are printed on the same paper (Rives BFK, mostly). They go into custom-made
archival boxes and are purchased by museums as well as collectors, so they
have to be standardized. But an eighth of an inch, as long as it's not too
big for the Baren boxes, is close enough IMO and probably most people
wouldn't even notice it.

Diane; 8" x 8" isn't 25.5 x 25.5

8 inches is 20.5cm.

10 inches is 25.5cms, and that's the exchange paper size, as Mike says.
