How embarrassing (and excuse the second post in a day but I have to redeem myself as not being a total idiot)... I just re-read the requirements (gulp) 10"x10" (cringe) and... Guadalupe, someone smarter than me will be able to let you know on the paper size, whether or not being off by that little is a problem...

Diane, you're funny ! I had to check what the #36 parameters were, but you corrected your email quicker than I could look.

So, .11 of an inch is less than 1/8 inch. I think that size is quite within the parameters given (10x10"). I mean, the deckle edge of a sheet of paper has more than a 1/8" variation, doesn't it?

I will let someone else (who knows more about this) give the exact specs that will satisfy the regulations.

I still have one of your prints (printed off my inkjet, I mean) - a nude on a beach - which continually educates me in carving and printing, Diane, so thanks for your work!

First of all Diane if you are doing an 8x8 inch square you are making your
print too small to conform to the exchange. I went to the exchange page to
double check and it states 10x10 inches. Second, have you ever collated an
exchange??? I have and I can say that the paper sizes have varied. Usually
not more than a 1/4 inch. The biggest problem is paper that is cut too big
because it will not fit into the cases and often is hard to mail with the
other prints. I would say the tiny fraction Guadalupe is speaking of is too
small to really make a difference. I would not encourage people to make
their paper bigger or smaller, it is just that we cut or tear our papers by
hand and things can vary a bit. As a coordinator I would not take out a
ruler and measure each set of prints, if they seem right, close enough they,
will probably go into the set. In fact I am not sure 10x10 is precisely
25.5x25.5. Gads that means if one of my prints is 1/16 of an inch small the
coordinator must send all of them back and I am not in the exchange. The
biggest problem we have right now, with our exchanges, is that people are
not getting the work in on time. In fact from what Mike has been saying
there is even one person in the last exchange that did not send work or
contact him. Gads, if the work comes and it is off a tiny bit do we really
want our exchange to be short one set of prints?? Our coordinators have
enough to do, least of all having to measure every set to make sure they are
precisely the right size.

Forgot to send good wishes to Wanda. Glad she is home.

Just out of curiosity do our prints have to be on paper??? Could we use
cloth or canvas??
I have been thinking about this naure printing thing. as I slowly awoke
this moring I wondered if one could priint with cloth or very thin paper by
placing it on top of a wood block and using a dauber. Would this be a print
one could put into a Baren exchange??? Or would it be something more like
an etching or a monotype??

Could I stretch cloth on a thin frame and print onto it for an exchange,
inking in a traditioanl manner and printing with a press or a Baren?? Could
this be placed in an exchange??

Yes, Marilynn... you are so right. I corrected myself and, yes, I have collated two exchanges so know that nothing is perfectly sized. I've had a post-it note for myself that's been up for a month and reads: 8"x8" Baren 36... That's my excuse albeit a poor one for the wrong information I just passed out. I need to re-write my reminder with the corrected dimensions. Again, excuse me to all (Oscar and Guadalupe included)...

And, since I'm posting for the 3rd time today, I have a couple of other things I may as well include.

First and most important... Wanda, I'm so glad to hear that you are better and resting at home.

Second... Is there any update on a Summit for 2009?

Hello Diane: I appreciate your fast response and concern for not having my prints sent back. Thank you for your comments on my art. I saw your work, (very nice). I read everybody writing such perfect English that I forget you might be living outside the US. Your resume is very interesting and your work in Puerto Rico also, congratulations.

Please do not feel bad about it, I do it all the time. Your explanations seem very logical to me. I myself wanted to be sure what “about” meant? The problem was that I want to print in Fabriano paper and the size lets me do only one print per page. Paper is expensive here. If I do 25 x 25 cm or 9.89 x 9.89 inches I can take 4 prints from a sheet.

So, “about” in the measurements can mean not more then one quarter of an inch in difference? I could also print in Bond paper if “Exact” measurements are better.

Please advice.
