I had experience* with artist's legal copyrights . Enough to say that it is
advisable to show any contract to a lawyer who specializes in copyright law.

An updated Artist's Legal Guide can tell you about many of the issues and is
also very interesting. Copyright Law is Federal although states have their
own specifics

Go to www.nolo.com and buy their Legal Forms for Artist's CD (downloadable).
It is a resource that I use on a weekly basis for something or another.

You will have a better chance of getting your work published if you charge a
reasonable flat fee. The only demand that I make is credit and I have
received quite a bit of business from seemingly tiny publications that
published my images. Also, they keep coming back for more if you stay
reasonable.
Absolutely have a time limit for usage and specify (very specifically) the
use for the image. All of this is spelled out in the contracts in that CD.

Oh and always remember, "you catch more flies with honey..."

Hi Annie,
I think you can buy carborundum from Graphic Chemical and Ink-it's
used to grain litho stones and I've seen it in small cans.

I think its chemical name is silicon carbide. You should be able to find one
pound cans of that at many online shops. Some of the hobby lapidiary stores
should be able to help.

Funny I just sort of went thru this but in a different aspect.. I was contacted by a photographer for Pottery Barn who wanted to use my prints in a catalog shoot. I was sent a release to sign .. It was giving them full rights to owning their publication, But I made sure they had NO rights to Reproduce my images.. I still had a sense of un ease signing any sort of contract, but obviouly if I didn't they wouldn't be used.
I'm hoping everyone contacts P.B. when they come out, about my prints , so maybe they will carry me (lol).. But does any one know of a contract form covering this? I have one from crafts report, but I feel like it's usually the purchaser/user of the images drawing up the contract. I think signing requires some smarts and some faith....
They did buy the prints.....

Annie, Daniel Smith carries 6 different grits of carborundum, from #80 to
#320; it's about $9.95 per pound. They have pumice powder, too.

Hello friends,
I got the best package in the mail today....

Do you remember when Andy English was selling his
complete works for pennies? Well, even at pennies I
could not get the complete works but I did send him
some money to help him buy his press.

We debated over what I should receive in return and
finally I told him to make something he would like to
do, an image for himself.

It arrived today...a wonderful little box of a zillion
book plates that say
Barbara Mason and have an image of a grouse...they are
so wonderful and on top of this Andy sent his amazing
handmade book with 25 bookplate in it. What an
exciting day...I think I might start collecting book
plates.

and also to visit Sennelier to buy some papers and ink.

In the 23rd February I'll be in London, but only this day.

Nice work Annette, Congratulations.

One of my earlier woodblocks (one colour design) of flying birds in
sunrays for an exchange was posted on the internet and I had a personal
email from a tattooist who requested my permission to use it. I was
thrilled that he even asked. Of course I gave him permission.... I
didn't really feel as if I could ask commission for using it or selling
the copyright and there would have been no way I could have checked it
out...... going to America and pulling up every likely shirt on likely
"hunks".... could you imagine it? Wow, but at least if i do see it in
a Tatts magazine I will frame the picture alongside my woodblock print
and block!! Everytime that body moved my birds would fly...........

I've recently started an art business in the UK, (mainly online)
which will be selling beautifully printed images on handmade
indian khadi paper. I'll be supplying private individuals as well
as providing art for offices and hotels etc.

One section of my site will sell broadsides, ie poetry and an
image, and I'm looking for woodcut artists who might be
interested in working with me. To begin with, I'll be using some
well known poems, for example Heaven by Rupert Brooke, which is
about fishing. I'll print a limited edition of these (say 50) and
sell them for aroud £500 each. To be honest I haven't full
considered what the financial arrangement would be, but probably
we'd agree a percentage and the artist could therefore stand to
make a decent amount.... Could any artist interested in this
submit to me an example or two of their images, or a site where I
