Is it just me or is this the least active time I've ever seen on Baren? No messages the last 2 days except the blog.
Probably just me as Yahoo email is really messed up since they added advertisements.

There have been a few messages lately, but traffic is low. Perhaps it's a
summer vacation thing!

I for one have been tooooo embarrass to write to Baren since I am the
culprit that's been keeping exchange #32 from mailing out....my apologies
to
Diane, Mike and all the #32 participants..... I been away (and w/o
internet access) for all August in Florida and our family was cruising the
Caribbean and unfortunately I did not give the exchange the priority it
deserves.....the good news is that my prints are done and you should be
getting your #32 exchange soon from Diane Cutter....
Julio Rodriguez (Skokie, Illinois)
All my other lists are quiet too, so I think everyone's away.
I'm in extreme smug mode today though......my little Farley proofing
press was delivered today! Paper grippers and height adjustment of
roller, so all mod cons! 8-)) Hopefully I'll get a stand sorted out for
it and get some blocks printed, soon. Pics on my blog for the
interested,
http://studio-window.blogspot.com/ It's a simple thing,
but I need uncomplicated!
Sue
Awesome! I'd never heard of AMR before...if it's not poking my nose where it
don't belong, was it expensive?
cheers,

the farley looks like a sign press used in stores to print window signs from
wood type, the work for wood cuts as well. Depending on the size of the
block to get a real strong sold black you might have to print with dampened
paper. for smaller blocks esp ones used in the baren exchanges it will work
very well. To get solid blacks esp in large areas damp paper helps a lot.
I had a sign press that had the roller for printing was made out of hard
rubber and not steel like my vandercook the amount of pressure to get a solid
black on a large block was a small problem as the rubber tended to go out of
round with that much pressue. This problem i don't have with the vandercook as
the thing is all steel. The only way to damage the vandercook is to leave
the koin key on the bed of the press which can ding the roller, the blocks
being wood or a soft metal like mag. or lead will not hurt the press.
i signed up for exchange 34 but my name is not on the list a week or two ago
if the cordinator of the exchange sees this could they please put me on the
list.

Hear ye hear ye!!!!
The Great Baren Cairn is exactly in the same place as when I left for
Colorado..oh, so long agooooooo...
Seriously folks, no little blocks waiting anxiously for moi when I got back.
It was sad. And I lost my favorite smiley antenna-ball, sniff...he went with
me to festivals for 7 years and now I had to replace him. Can you believe 7
years on my antenna and nobody took him? He had a big yellow smile, and a
jester hat and shoes.
My new smiley, though, has an old style motorcycle leather helmet and riding
goggles, vrrrrrmmmmmm...
What does this have to do with Cairn updates? NOTHING!!!! I'm goofy today.
Back to reality: I will send three more Baren Cairn reminders at generous
intervals and then I am closing the project. I gotta print sometime. Please
don't let your block be blank! Scribble your initials with a rock, a la
Michael Schneider, and send it back to me! Don't forget to scribble
backwards. Anything! Really, just get them tiny blocks done and back to me.
Seriously, we're talking about 2 hours of carving at most. Stay up late, get
up early...please please please!
I am planning a seriously awesome colophon. I am planning a book to
encompass Puzzle Projects Uno y Dos. I am planning to take next year off
festivals and dedicate myself fully to artful creations and more insane
collaborations, possibly of global proportions; I am exaggerating, of
course.
I will email the stragglers privately. Those of you who have called and
written and are working are hereby blessed. I really think I only have one
person I have not heard from at all.

Hi Maria- Do you have an update on the Iraq exchange, too? I'd love to
see that moving along....
Thanks!

£150 delivered. All cleaned up and ready to rock. AMR are up in
Kendall. I believe Jeremy advertises on the Briar Press site.
Today I'm clearing a temporary space for it in the studio. I didn't
realise I had so much junk!

I'll have to see how it goes, impression wise, but the press is
incredibly heavy. I want to be able to have a little play with it by
Monday as it's a holiday here. I'll let you know how I get on.
