Thanks for a thorough and detailed account of how you treat your,
brushes, Jan. You and Tom both (in different ways) give me courage to
be less timid about getting the upper portions of the brush wet! So
often that's what I find from being a member of Baren: the courage to
take up my knives and brushes and try again.
I'm a great admirer of your moku hanga prints. For anyone who hasn't
seen Jan's work, check it out here:

I've never had much luck just rinsing the brushes with water and am a
bit of a persnickety old lady when it comes to my brushes, therefore,
I also wash them with soap with a thorough rinsing in tepid water
before and after. I use a mild hand soap and some of my brushes are
50 yrs. old. The bristles are a little short on some of them, but
still pliable and workable. I can proudly say that I have never lost
a brush due to the way I've cared for them. (Leaving one someplace
doesn't count.) After soaping and rinsing I gently brush them
against a turkish towel and hang on a rack to dry. Dr. Bronner's
soap is highly recommended and is sold worldwide.

Cheers ~
