Jeanne, I saved the info you posted on the hydraulic press, thanks!

however, what I would like to get at the moment is a press which would
accommodate larger prints than that, up to at least maybe 16" x 20 paper,
something like that.

many thanks

Sarah...

I have both a small Dick Blick press and the larger 999. Both are excellent with enough pressure for both intaglio and relief, as well as really thin plates (solarplate, polyester plate). The gear ratio on both is something less than 3:1 which means a little arm strength is needed to turn the handles. Also it's nice to anchor the smaller press, if possible, though that blue rubber non-skid rubber stuff works very well, too.

When buying the press, get the 36" bed plate, a few dollars more but a huge difference in how you can use the press. And if you live in an area where rust is a factor (seashore, rainy humid areas) get the phenolic bed plate. It's very strong and won't rust.

Another great thing about Dick Blick is their excellent customer service. A couple of printmakers had problems with the bed not fitting properly and DB made it 'right' quickly and at no extra cost. Howard Metzenberg (at Dick Blick) is a good name to keep at hand if you run into problems.

Okay this topic is getting hashed to death. New years cards. I mailed out
more yesterday in the clear bags. They took them for the 39 cents, postal
rates go up on Monday. I was informed that after Monday any I send in a
clear bag will be an additional 17 cents because the machines will not take
them. I think this is hogwash as I seem to have several that look like they
have been through a machine, oh well. So, before you use the clear bags do
check with your local post office.

Yesterday I did look for the album I had mounted past new years cards in
thinking I would find cards I might have put there during our move. I found
every exchange except that one, go figure???. I am going with the thought
that this is my error in forgetting about the move. For me in the future,
with this exchange, I am going to mail out cards to those folks who have
sent me one over a 2-3 year period, any that have failed to mail out over
this time span probably never will. Also when cards are mailed out and I
fail to receive one I will try to contact the sender and let them know.
That way I can personally monitor the list and feel that I am not giving to
folks who never give back. I think this is a fair solution that will keep
our little exchange loose, open and without a coordinator. Basically I am
saying we can individually take on the responsibility of watching after this
exchange, thus keeping it so nicely informal.

Michelle,
I received your card here in Seattle (in fact the PO even forwarded it to my new address). It arrived safe and sound in it's clear plastic envelope. I love your piggies, thank you very much. I very much enjoy seeing the cards in their clear envelopes - I imagine everyone along the way enjoying them, and it adds to the fun! I wish the PO would be more consistent about whether or not they allow them. Sounds like some of them are not getting through, and some are.
