Don't worry Gayle, I am not offended by the name mixup. I mess up names
constantly! I am just happy that you like the piece. I have more butterflies
on the way.
As a memeber of the main nude exchange I would be in favor of getting this
into the Dallas Museum of Fine Art. It would show that there are still a
lot of artists out there doing the nude. Also I think this was a missed
opportunity to educate young minds about the difference between art and
pornography. To allow a parents warped view of the human form as something
not to be seen as beautiful instead of something to be hidden is a backwards
notion. Perhaps we can promote the beauty of the human form, as art. A
little more publicity to support an art teacher who seemed to be doing a
good job of educating. This is one moment artists should speak up and out,
we do not want to move back to a total puritanical society where art can be
censored.

Me, too; I would also be in favor of such an exhibit at the Dallas Museum or any museum!

Please excuse the second email. But I have 2 questions. For those who have
used the cherry wood does this wood give a good grain when wire brushed????
I have a piece with a really nice burl that i would like to see if i can
print.
also this wood is giving me some nice fine lines. Would it print better
with a stiff ink?? Like a litho ink like barbara uses??? I had not
thought much on ink texture until the recent posting of the web site where
the artist was using a needle and achieving fine lines and using a stiff ink
to roll it??? Or would my nice hanga water based inks work with fine
lines??? This may require experimenting on my part.
Thanks,
Marilynn
D.M.A. = Dallas is a great exhibition space. There are
many very good alternates in Dallas and Fort Worth.
Lots of opportunity in Texas to show.
I can give you a list.

Sure it would be great to have a print exhibited at the Dallas Museum of Art. The only question is, is that group of prints of museum quality? Are you going to exhibit it in it's entirety or just select a few? I don't doubt that we have enough muscle to get prints exhibited in that museum, but is this appropriate? Or is there some gallery in that city that would take them?
The SF MOMA is having an Anselm Kieffer show coming up soon. Did you ever see his print, "Grain?" It's awesome. They had another one of his prints in ARTFORUM or ART NEWS this month. I just read them in the book store. It looked like he took an old print and painted on top of it with black paint. That technique would probably improve my prints too.
Maybe they could show our prints in some dusty corner of the museum somewhere, call it a mini--print exhibition, and open the room when our members come to visit the museum and ask where they are.

The Anselm Kiefer show is coming to the SF MOMA Octobere 20, not the New York MOMA. Sorry about that.
I think if I glued straw to my prints, like he does, it might improve my prints. My race track prints. Straw for the horses to walk on and lie down in. But then people would say I was copying him and they would be right.
Ironically the catalog from the Met. show says it was about facism and nazism, but the SF MOMA blurb says it's about Jewish mysticism. So I guess Kiefer got them straightened out.
