When I mentioned the idea of getting our Nude Exchange into the Dallas
Museum of Art that was in response
to Charles Morgan's message yesterday about a teacher being suspended for
taking her class to the Dallas Museum of Art where they happened to pass a
nude statue. I think my first e-mail on that subject got lost

What do you think about that Exchange being exhibited in the Dallas
Museum? I didn't see the Nude Exchange, yet, but what do you think of the idea?
I'll be away from the computer for a few days. ( No one is chasing me)

Michelle Lee, I went to your blog and saw your butterfly print, which
is stunning. This is actually the print, itself and not the
woodblock? It looks so much like the woodblock, I'm amazed! What
kind of ink did you use? And paper? A lovely woody print.

Actually if I'd read the page, rather than just trawling it up from the
depths of my bookmarks, I would have spotted it:

"I started by mulling whiting into Daniel Smith white relief ink to
stiffen it up. It worked, but now I prefer to make my own ink by
grinding titanium white and other dry pigments into #3 burnt plate oil.
The ink for the key block has to be very stiff but very plastic at the
same time, or else it will (a) clog the fine lines and (b) fail to cover
the ground, so you have to mull it thoroughly and then do it again. It
has to be perfectly smooth, with no lumps, but so stiff you can just
barely roll it out on the slab. The dark ink for the ground block is not
so critical, for some reason, but it should be stiffened a little, too,
if it has highlight cuts."

I wonder if one could achieve this with water-based inks, or those
'easy-wash' ones...

Hi Gayle,

First I want to say that my name is Marissa. This is the print, the
woodgrain really printed beautifully, I used a wire brush on it. It is
printed on Rives medium weight offwhite paper with a monotype background. I
had listed it for sale, but instead I am giving it to a friend for her
birthday since she expressed interest in it.

Hello everyone!
I have put together an outline of a 9/11 remembrance project that I am starting. It was inspired by all the talk about Barens possible 9/11 anniversary exchange. (which I still hope happens and want to be a part of)
I am offering it to everyone here because there is a real wealth of talent and it is all about printmaking.

Maybe this is not entirely for woodblock printmakers, but also
woodblocks can be used to create beautiful monoprints, by adding some
cretive changes to each block printed.
