Thanks all for on and off list suggestions.

Yes, I have the Graphic Chemical extender and Daniel Smith's transparent
base.
I just got my Daniel Smith printed catalog and there is some info in there.
But the most helpful was the Akua-Kolor website
http://www.waterbasedinks.com/waterbased.html and their line of extenders.
They have a sample pack with all their extenders and I will be trying and
testing them with other brands.

Helllooooo all you Baren-ers in the Portland/Vancouver area (in the
upper left hand corner of a US map)!

Tonight is the fabulous opening of the Barenforum.org group show at the
North Bank Gallery, 1005 Main St., Vancouver, 5 - 8pm. I will, of
course, see EACH AND EVERY ONE of you there, n'est pas? Of course, I
will, otherwise be prepared every time you step outside your front door
- I could be lurking there with an ink filled (as opposed to water
filled) balloon. Yes, the worst kind! And, my aim is deadly. Plus
also, I have a terrific arm after burnishing the letters for the show
up onto the wall yesterday - man, does that require upper body
strength.

So, all that being said, threats included, we will have plenty of
excellent wine, food, prints, and camaraderie and we will see you
there! Right??

Cheers!
Sharri

PS - you will have no trouble finding the place - its the one with the
Baren Puzzle Project #1 framed and gleaming in the window :-)

Dang!

Fed-Ex didn't bring my plane ticket this morning. What's up with that? LOL!

Hope the show goes well. Please post pics for those of us who live
waaaaay across the country.

Sorry about the two posts in one day, but a couple of things need
doing. FIRST: I neglected to say THANK YOU to that bundle of energy
and ever hard working Barbara Mason for flying across the river and
helping me hang the Barenforum.org Group Show. It wouldn't, it
couldn't, have happened without her help.

And SECOND: Barbara's valuable idea to post the Official Summit
Schedule of Events, as it exists today:

Monday, August 14:

Gather at studio: 9 am - throughout the day
meet/greet/ brunch and lunch
Afternoon:
Hanga demo by that world famous printmaker, the one and only Wanda
Robertson, or - if she cannot be conned into it, Barbara Mason, or
(heaven forbid) Sharri
Dinner at studio

Tuesday, August 15:

9am - gather at studio
brunch/lunch
work on our own stuff
About 3pm we will depart for McClain's to look, lust after, and
purchase supplies, tools, paper, etc. and be treated to hors d'oeuvres,
etc. which will probably be dinner for most of us.
Dinner on your own if you still want it.

Wednesday, August 16:
9am - gather at studio
work in morning
brunch/lunch
Barbara Mason will demonstrate Solar prints for those interested.
Solar prints can also be printed relief, as well as intaglio.
Any other demo's that anyone wants to present to the group.
Story telling, reminiscing, etc.

Thursday, August 17:
9am - gather at studio
work in morning
brunch/lunch
About noon: depart for Portland Art Museum
12:45 - Welcome and introduction to Gilkey Print Center by Dr. Annette
Dixon, Curator of Prints and Drawings
1:00 pm: Docent tour of Rustling Grasses, Japanese print exhibition at
Portland Art Museum.
2:00 - Gallery hopping and dinner in Portland. We will stop at North
Bank Gallery to see the Barenforum. org Exhibition, too!

Friday, August 18:
9am - gather at studio
work on stuff
brunch and lunch
Tool sharpening and Baren wrapping demo by Richard Steiner - yes, the
famous Richard Steiner will be here!
Dinner in Studio
Farewell party

Saturday, August 19
This is an extra, outside of the official summit, day. If anyone is
interested in visiting the Columbia River Gorge we will stuff you all
in a couple of vehicles and head up the gorge. We can have lunch at
Multnomah Falls, or a picnic along the way in one of the state parks.
We can also visit Bonneville Dam and see the fish ladders, etc. Dinner
at McMenamin's Edgefield if you want. It is a fun place with lots of
painting by local artists, on site brewery and winery, glass blower,
potter, etc.

It is not too late to sign up - we can accommodate a few more, but
space is limited! You might want to zippy zoom right over to that
sign-up page http://www.barenforum.org/summit/index.html and do that
right now before it's too late.

Cheers!

Hi all,
The exhibit does look grand...it is always hard to hang the work of 30 people in one room without it looking hodge podge, I think we did a good job.
Sharri gives me way too much credit...she is Mrs. organization and she did bribe me with a fabulous lunch at a great restaurant on the Columbia river...so it was pretty painless work.

Anyone waffeling about coming should sign up for the Summit 2006...I think it will be a great time. We are so lucky to get Richard Steiner to tie a baren for us. He will be here for a weeklong workshop he is teaching at Marylhurst sponsored by McClains Printmaking and Print Arts Northwest the following week. 16 people have signed up to take it and 4 are on the waiting list....so moku hanga is alive and well in the Pacific Northwest.

I am personally doing a lot of the food, mostly catered by Costco. Did I mention that I used to be a dinner cook in a restaurant in my youth???? I still remember how to make dinner for a huge crowd...the company will be good and the food will be good and I think we can even find a little wine. :~)))

Le Green, will you email me? I had invited you to stay at my home but have not heard from you for a long time....are you really coming to Oregon??? Please let me know. I am putting this on the list as my personal email was not answered and think I might not have the correct address.
Best to all,.

ooops
that link didnt work sorry here is the article

Would You Like to See My Etchings?
BY PAUL FRISWOLD
Ruth Kolker

This print . . . is pure.
Put two printmakers in a room together, and you'll hear some of the most boring, jargon-laced conversation you'll ever endure in your life. Unless you, yourself, are a printmaker, in which case you'll probably join in with your own opinions on the proper way to apply an even coat of hardground to a copper plate. But despite their shared obsession with the technical aspects of laboriously crafting a mechanism to take a single image and make many copies of it, printmakers are generally very entertaining people. Just don't make the joke about Kinko's being able to do the same thing their precious etched plates do, but for a lot less money and time; they'll stab you with one of those triangular scrapers, and everyone knows a triangular puncture wound never heals. Strangely, it is their very obsession with the methodology and details of arcane skills such as image transfer, woodblock cutting, silk-screen manufacture, et al., that makes printmakers so interesting. They think
differently than non-printmakers. Once they've achieved some success with a printing process, they almost always try to make it more complicated for themselves; conversely, they quickly simplify complicated procedures so they can replicate them later. Weird, wacky cats, those printmakers.
Friday, July 28, between 6 and 9 p.m., a mess of printmakers congregate at the Foundry Art Centre (520 North Main Center, St. Charles; www.foundryartcentre.org or 636-255-0270) for the opening of Dirty Fingernails Say a Lot: A Celebration of "Pure" Printmakers. This exhibit features etchings, drypoints, silk screens, woodblock prints, monotypes — and every print was hand-pulled. Sure, the conversation is probably going to turn technical, but you'll still have a good time. Dirty Fingernails remains up through Friday, September 15.
