Jean....
I wondered what Thymol was also...
and found out that it's an ingredient in Listerine:
http://www.cas.astate.edu/draganjac/thymolwebpage.html
It was discovered in 1719...purified in 1853...is found in thyme and monarda....
I found it's history interesting:
http://www.henriettesherbal.com/eclectic/kings/monarda.html
What I did run into was some very interesting information about
The Effects of Thymol on Paper, Pigments & Media:
http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/byorg/abbey/an/an21/an21-3/an21-308.html
Talas sells Thymol as "a highly effective fungicide....a 10% solution in ethyl alcohol can be added to wheat and
rice pastes to control mold...."
which is interesting because after reading the Palimpsest information, I got to wondering about alcohol...
does this mean, picking some thymol crystals up from the drugist will allow one to concoct their own 10% solution?
(I was just in the perfect mood to do some homework...
especially, since I'm thinking about putting something in the water...
sometimes I don't like surprizes....)
SO...how about all that!
In the mean time,
I'm doing the freezer method while I let all this roll around in my head.
