Hi all,
I have to say I am really enjoying all the discussion about the upcoming
exchange theme. There are wonderful little snippets of information about
each individual and what motivates them or adds quality to their lives.
The reasons given for wanting a particular subject or not really tells us
so much about how our group thinks and works.
If anyone thinks this is squabbling or arguing, it's not. I can assure you
that all of the names that you see giving opinions will be on the final
sign up. This group works so well together it's amazing. Wish I was going
to play, but I am over booked as it is.

I think everyone's work is basically small statements anyways.. Though the themes bring a cohesiveness to the exchanges...

At the risk of firmly planting my foot in my mouth: EVERYONE has a
cause. Marissa, it would seem to me that yours is nature and the
environment. We may, or may not have "organized causes", but I don't
think they would have to be - it could just be what is important to
you, that is your cause. Therefore, I vote for causes - political, or
otherwise. Hooray for Julio for saying it best. Printmakers have
notoriously been outspoken for social justice, human rights and many
other rightous causes. If you want to have nudity be your cause, go
for it. If you want to print clad, or otherwise, underwater - good
luck with that wet paper! If you choose to depict your cause as a
cartoon while duct taped to the ceiling, why not?? (Just be sure to
webcam this one -)

Tolerance is one thing, pushing around personal views on this forum is
another. As long as we keep the ideas to our prints and not discuss them
here than it would be a reasonable theme to do anything political or a
personal cause. I have to admit I do not have one and I am not into comics
either. But if I don't like the theme than I can choose not do the
exchange, my right. If you go with a controversial topic just keep it off
this forum and everyone can be happy.
By the way autism is a wonderful thing to choose. I loved working with my
little autistic second grader, amazing child

Sharri and all,
As a newcomer to Baren, I am also taking a risk here. This is certainly an
active membership compared to most other 'net groups I've participated in.

I'm an old hand at "causes" and I would say the trick is NOT TO TELL OTHERS
what THEIR cause is.
By stating the location of your foot, I did not find your statement
offensive or anything like that, Sharri. :o) !!
Just my 2cents, for what it's worth.
