Bravo Robert!
This topic has indeed been much discussed on the forum. I heartily agree
with what you write and once more mention my own experience with selling
prints - numbering has never been an issue with an honest commercial
gallery that sells my prints as well as museum art sales and rental
galleries and private sales I have made - buyers only seem to have been
interested in the image. In the past I had numbered my prints because it
was the convention but am not going to do so any more. I think it may
matter to people who collect prints only, sometimes paying high prices and
feel it adds extra value to their purchases. Dealers and those wretched
shopping mall galleries have done us all a disservice in stressing the
importance of numbered editions most particularly with giclée prints in
order to convince buyers they're getting something special -
but all this has been said before

Brad and Robert -your dog cards are wonderful - I especially appreciate the
upward facing dog as I do yoga! the Chinese New year falls sometime in
February so must hasten to work on my card - I believe I still owe some
roosters and maybe monkeys as well - I never seemed to print enough at one
go and when I was hand colouring it took forever so will keep them simpler
- my excuse is painting makes strong demands but I enjoy making the
woodcuts which I hand print -just wish I had a press!

Happy New Year to all

I love the postcard exchange for many reasons. It has no limit on how many
can do the exchange. It is small in size, unless you opt otherwise. There
is no formal coordinator, no case, no colophon, just send them out to
everyone on the list and others you might like to include personally. It is
relaxed in nature. The little gems are often wonderful prints, not always
woodblock. The only rule is that it be a card to celebrate the new year and
that hopefully it arrives close to the new year. Our other exchanges are
more structured, but often the subjects are quite broad. They leave it open
for our imaginations as artists to create works that are individual and vary
tremendeously. Since our new years cards have a tight subject (the animal
of the year) I think it is marvelous that some can find creative ways to
interpret this without using the animal image. Mine, well if the plates I
have planned work out there will be a dog image, hopefully several. I am
slow with my carving, just relax with it and let it flow, my first plate is
coming along well, I am pleased, so far. But still may not get to the
printing until I am down south, which means you will get them mid year once
again! You more industrious souls who are so timely , thank you for the new
year greeting! They are wonderful little gifts.

Marilynn,
do you know if I could enjoy this exchange too???
As you say I think it seems inefable (inefável) ,

[for using a word my friend
philosophy graduating and painter Amauri,
wrote in the
guestbook of my prints exposition talking about
Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920)].
