"Wilson College students on Friday rode a steamroller over woodblocks they handcarved to create a giant print of a Vincent van Gogh masterpiece. Each student was given a block traced with a fraction of the masterpiece to color and carve, duplicating a different portion of Van Gogh's well-known "Starry Night."



... Since Dickson, assistant professor of fine arts, forgot to flip the image before tracing it onto the blocks, it came out backward, according to Wilson student Stephanie Walker, McConnellsburg. "But that will just make our print unique."

These are really great prints, thank you for sharing the links. I really
enjoyed them.

Last weekend I made some prints for a proposed wine label. I wish I could
share them. I honestly don't know if it would cause a problem or not. There
is a big chance I will not be chosen for the project, hmm I'm not sure.

Greetings from a newbie who is just winding up to start cutting her
first woodblocks! I have been assuming that I could make my paste from
the refined white rice flour I buy at the nearest Asian market. Is this
reasonable? I am loath to buy the art supply store stuff as it costs an
arm and a leg. Thanks in advance.

I can't thank you all enough for the wonderful material on the web
site. Greatest thanks to all involved in developing it and getting it
up there.

Good morning Rob
I don't know what state or even country you are in, but health food
stores that carry bulk should have it in the bulk section. You can go
to most "fine arts" supply stores and find a glue called "yes" glue
that is made from rice. And guess what, make your own. easy to do and
works well. Overcook some white short grain, (like fat rice or
sometimes called pearl) and keep adding water. You will finally get a
"porridge" save that water on top.... that's your binder........... I
put mine through a strainer, like tea strainer with a spoon to get all
the lumps out. then merely keep in refrigerator will you want to use
it. i usually take out about what i am going to use and put it into a
glass cup and heat it in the micro to soften it a bit. Not only is
this a good binder for painting, it is good as a paper glue and "book
binding" glue.

then there is the egg yolk binder.....
