Renee, Julio, and All,

Yes, most definitely I agree that looking close to home can be very
inspirational. Those things that comprise our daily lives are what
we understand the most, see the little nuisances in, and have a
passion about even if we aren't aware of it. I find that when I
travel to strange places I tend to see the broader image. I think
that is due to not being familiar with all of the undercurrents that
are swirling about.

Mike, that is a gorgeous press! I hope after all that effort you
obviously are putting into it that it works as well as it looks.

I have finished carving the blocks for my first woodcut. They are
now ready for proofing (as soon as the methyl cellulose arrives), and
I will post it to a blog when it is ready for public viewing and let
you all know.

I haven't been terribly active on this discussion list, but read it
eagerly each day and enjoy it immensely. As time goes by, and
experience increases hopefully I can be more active.

There's a Deborah Ripley article on Artnet Magazine with nice print photos
from the the current Armory show in New York

Julio, thanks for posting the link to Tom Kristensen's 36 Views of Green
Island on Artelino. I've been watching Tom's progress on the Saru Gallery
site, but I really enjoyed the expanded view offered on Artelino, especially
Tom's written comments about each piece. Beautiful moku hanga. Bravo, Tom!

Mike,
You never cease to amaze me. Way to go, Big Guy - LOL. Retirement IS
what you make of it. Personally, I believe it exists so that we can
all spend full time doing what we were always meant to do - whatever
that is.

I have covered parking space for the press if you decide to drive it
out here next summer. Don't forget the horn - an oooooga sound, doncha
think?


Renee, I think you should consider doing a book of prints about your
area. I'm sure it would be a best seller, I'm serious, plus - you
never know - maybe a Pulitzer.

I am off to check out the Hesse collection at the Portland Art Museum -
after all, we taxpayers/museum members, paid to clean and restore most
of the work being shown, to help those poor royal folks out. I have a
moral obligation to go see it - and take a student. (slight sneer)

Hi Guys!

I have just been to the Opening Baren page and the Current Exchange
Sign ups thinking that I was running late for the 2006 - Year of the
Dog Exchange postcards and there is nothing there yet.......... phew!!

I have just finished all my exhibition follow ups....... one corporate
company (an Accounting and Immigration Company) who bought two of my
FLag Series has asked permission to use one of them for their corporate
Christmas Card this year with my CV and mention of the Gadfly Gallery
on the back..... so I have given permission but not commercial
rights....... free advertising!

Gave a Hanga workshop at the Printmakers Association of Western
Australia last weekend with some very interested printmakers and
yesterday printed off the extra papers and an extra set of blocks that
we didn't have time for last Saturday because the papers were still
perfect for printing and too good to waste. One set of blocks I had
cut used Indonesian "packing case" wood called Jellutong. It is a very
soft "soapy" wood that cuts easily but you can't use it for fine line
work and it printed really well without lacquering (I don't lacquer any
of my blocks). I have previously used it with oil based ink, but was
really surprised at the ease with which it handled the waterbased
pigment as well.... so that gives me a good back up quick fix wood Down
Under. Beech has been good too.

I have imported shina ply direct now from Woodlike Matsumura so now I
am set for another year..... at least!!

With Uni over for this year too I have three months to play!!

It feels good to have some "free time" again!

Will be watching and listening for the sign up to begin..........
