I'm with Jeanne on #25, I like exotica. Because it could be a flower, a
nude or all sorts of things. Living half the year in the tropics, well
imagination runs wild, even to the abstract!

Thank you Mike for your hard work, the link worked the second time and the
work is wonderful.

Maria, I loved your last landscape, wow, now how do I get the money to buy
it???? We love retirement and have great places to live, but it does cut
down on the income, oooooops.
You using a scroll saw to cut it apart or a jigsaw? AND I understand wood
exploration, it is fun, my box of scraps is leading me into both myrtlewood
and black walnut, liked em both. The walnut has more grain.

I don't know if this would be echoing to hard on the
"Pets" theme of past but, what about "A Mythic
Beastiary"?

What about "Winter Prints" ?

You are generalizing which widens the category! I'll help- how bout
"Exotic Dreams"
then only normal dreams might be excluded...wealth, fame, beauty, world
peace, etc.
Any fantasy might be called a dream. So all entries would need to show
imagination.
If that leaves anyone out they can always sign up for the next one.
...: )
But hmmm- i'd second u and vote for "exotics or "exotica" a name which
has a nice ring and beckons the curious...

Peace,
Robin

I use a scroll saw with very thin skip-tooth blades. I am still not very
confident with it but seems I am getting better at judging the tightness of
the blade needed for certain kinds of wood. When sawing 3/4" cherry I leave
the blade rather loose so it will make the tight turns without breaking or
burning the wood.

This padouk piece was only about 3/8" thick but much harder than cherry so I
tightened a bit more....oooops, too much! Snap bang wacka-wacka-wacka
(that's the sound of the blade breaking and banging against my precious
block. New blade, back off a bit on the tightness and finished the job
without a hitch. I am getting a better feel for the blade tightness
according to the wood I am sawing now.

I use the jigsaw (hubby got me a cordless/variable speed for my birthday
last year, romantic, huh?) when sawing very large blocks that don't fit in
the depth of my scroll saw. They sell very thin kerf, fine tooth blades for
jigsaws for "scroll" work but I still prefer the hairline kerf of the real
scroll saw.

Both are oh, so beautiful! Just breathtaking! Makes me hungry for the
desert. Now, I've never camped out & watched the sun come up - so
maybe I will try that. :-) I like landscapes by night, myself.
Flooded by moon & stars & barely visible & so mysterious. Hard to draw
or paint it though....

Well, don't ever use Speedball as your black outline ink! Not if you plan
on using any water based glue to put the other prints down on the blocks for
the color.

Well, they are all on the wood, 6 blocks (not counting the original black
line print).

I have found the most helpful thing to be this:

http://www.woodblock.com/encyclopedia/entries/000_09/000_09_frame.html

Highly recommended for any first timer!

I used a watered down decoupage stuff to paste the sheets down, waiting for
them to dry.

Would this stuff work when printing? Nice consistency and easy to work with.

Oh yeah, is there a poor man's version or substitute for the brush thing?

Dan,
If it is watersoluble truly. That is it will get completely dry and then dissolve in water again. If so you could probably use it, If not, do not use it as it probably has a polymer in it.
By brush do you mean the one he is putting the ink on with? There is really no substitute for one, although a shoe polish brush might work but will not give you streak free printing. I have seen Walt Padgett do quite a big print with a very small brush, we have some left from the last summitt, they are 24mm and only $8.
Best to you,
Barbara
