Congratulations Jan on your October show. I will be looking forward to
seeing the work.
Barbara I know what you mean about why they buy art????? My husband always
says to sell I must create what people will buy?????? I just figure do
what I enjoy, show it and hope for the best.

Thank you Sharri and Bette for your reply on my coupon issue....The 50c
Bette would be 50c American as I notice all your parcels are cheaper in
your currency than what it costs me to send to you. Maybe your postage
rate is cheaper than ours!..... Anything that is for "Overseas" like
"Disablility" for patients in my working life always had a bigger mark
up and cost.... Like the beautiful Chinese New Year Stamps that we can
use from Christmas Island which cost almost twice as much as our own
overseas stamps and if we use domestic stamps for overseas mail we get
slugged another GST!! At least we can't complain about the "service"
in our postal service.
When my exchange 22 arrived the other day I needed to sign for it....
that too is unusual but it came FedEx instead of regular post and I
thanked the lady by addressing her as "Madam" and she was quite
surprised, but I said I didn't know her name and I couldn't call her
"sir"!! We both laughed and thanked each other...one for the parcel
and the other for courtesy! Sorry for the off context "trivia"
here!!!

Thanks Barb. I wish you could all come and so I will make sure that
there are extra bits on the web.
4th October...well it won't be that far away, no, but I had been
working very hard and have over 30 pieces to hang already..... some
exchange pieces, but many that have been especially printed for this
exhibition including the series on "The Great Aussie Flag Debate" which
will not have the same profound meaning for many except the Aussies,
but you will all enjoy the concept I am sure and it is a great way to
use a woodblock. I will have the series made into a postcard pack so
that lots of people can appreciate the concept...... I don't know about
the originals....I suppose I will have to sell them. One of my first
experiments for the series has already gone to Japan a year or so ago
with Hiroshi Tomihari, so that was my biggest incentive to get a whole
series together...of 12 individual pieces. The concept I thought of
was actually conceived at his place in Oyama Japan one night when I
couldn't sleep ...I am not sure whether it was the mattress on the
floor, the after effects of the BBQ sardines or getting excited about
the Opening then of my Exhibition in Japan in a few days time....but it
did happen!!
I will keep you all posted.
Love,
Jan
Congratulations, Jan - you know I will be there vicariously. It is
getting so I travel that way more and more :-)
I don't recall who I owe the thanks to for the mention of the
PaperPolitics show in Seattle. I can see the image of his print, but
can't find the name to go with it. Anyway, thanks for mentioning the
show and that you had been accepted - I did write to them and had been
accepted to the show, but somehow the email was lost. (or so they were
nice enough to say and I am in now - LOL) It sounds like a great and
interesting show and I plan to go for the opening in April.
Cheers!
Sharri
Marilynn,
You are on the right track...as soon as you make what you think people will buy it is the kiss of death for sales....do your own stuff and with luck sales will follow.
Best to you,
Barbara
