Jan,
I had no problem whatever using your Aussie Coupons for return postage
on the LPE last Spring and I took them to a very small rural post
office. I could have taken them to a larger one, but this one was
closer and I knew I wouldn't have to stand in line with a thousand
packages and other customers sending little eye-knives my direction.
They were a bit surprised to see the coupons, but just looked them up
in a book and that was the end of that, they processed the package and
we were on to the next one. I think a PO in Kentucky didn't know what
it was doing, which really surprises me because if anyone is going to
find the one PO in the country which didn't know what to do with those
coupons it would ordinarily be me.

Jan,
My Post Office here in Kentucky had to look them up in the books as
well. If I remember correctly, I think they only valued the coupons at
50 cents each though.

Thanks, Marilynn, for your contributions to baren forum--I like the
idea of providing a folder for prints as an option, in our co-op
gallery. This could be a great way for travellers to protect the prints
in their suitcases when they go home....If they were sturdy enough, of
course.
I'm thinking of Baja today as the rain washes three feet of what WAS
wonderful skiing snow....from Alaska.....Aimee

Hi Everyone,
I know this is a very early notice about my Woodblock Exhibition for
this year, but I had to share it with you all.... it is rather
exciting....
My Woodblock Exhibition Opening is Tuesday October 4th at the Gadfly
Gallery, Waratah Ave Dalkeith Western Australia. Australia.
I am sorry I didn't have much choice with dates and had to fit in with
Anna..... she is hoping to get someone else from NSW to share it with
me, but by then I would have enough work to spread out on to the
footpath! She has a new format for invitations too which wasn't
really what I wanted, and wanted my own invitations, but again, she
does the marketting.
She didn't like my Title either... What is a Print? Woodblocks by Jan
Telfer.....because she is not a printmaker I suppose it didn't mean
much to her.... then again everyone thinks that "prints" are just
commercial copies now anyway!
I have three sections:
1. Hanga - watercolour multiblock prints
2. Western Style - oil based prints
3. Mixed Media using just one woodblock which has 12 prints in the
Series based on a linear oilbased print and each print I have
individually added watercolour, gouache, pencil, calligraphy or other
bits and pieces. I will be also bringing this series out in postcard
series in its own folder like I did with my oil based prints that were
exhibited in Oyama, Japan at Hiroshi Tomihari's Museum of Woodcuts.
Hopefully later this year I will be able to get someone to scan those
for me too...maybe on Baren or World Printmakers.
Anna said that she will put an extensive amount on the website to cater
for all my Baren, Print Australia and interstate fellow printmakers and
friends but I am also getting all of my work professionally
photographed and am hoping to have someone there to take photos as well.
Maybe between now and then I could come up with a really big "show
stopper"!!
I could have done with a good drink yesterday ...was a bit disappointed
that I didn't have all the "say", but came home to tea!!!!
If you would like to come to WA I am sure Perth could cater with
accommodation.

Congratulations on your upcoming exhibit! October sounds far off unless you are a printmaker...it does take time to get an exhibit ready. I have a couple coming up this year and started before Christmas...I am not in panic mode yet...that will happen about June.
Wish we could all come to Perth for the opening, but we will be there in spirit! I do know what you mean about not having total control, but if sales follow it will make up for it.
There is so much stuff happeing among the baren family of printmakers it is hard to keep up. We are an active group! With all the new technology and the mix in with traditional stuff it is a pretty exciting time to be a print maker.
Too bad we have to focus so much on sales and marketing. We could all take a lesson from Dave, who seems to have it in control. I have been asked to talk about how to get one's work exhibited and sold and I am going to just open my brain and say what I know for myself, which after all these years of making and selling work is not much. If there is one thing I surely have learned is that we do not have a clue about why people buy art...it is a great mystery. If we could just figure it out life would be easier.
