Bette:

Have the cards been shipped out yet? I haven't been home to sign for them, but
also haven't seen any slips from the Post Office to pick them up either?
Looking forward to seeing this exchange.
Thanks,
Cyndy in Spokane

Just back from the LEAF meeting in which I introduced Baren and the Surimono #21 exchange to the Lincolnshire Arts Professionals. I had no real fears because the exchange prints, literally, spoke for themselves.

I decided not to put the prints in frames or mount onto exhibition boards because of a fascinating dialogue I read on the forum : how should prints be viewed ? I always love going into printrooms and sit at leisure handling print masterpieces from their portfolios.

I laid the Surimono prints on open display amongst all the paraphernalia needed for Japanese style printmaking together with my Hiroshige quarter sized Haiku edition of " The 8 views of Omi". I waited patiently for three quarters of an half an hour whilst all the professionals had their say about their own important new projects. Then it was my turn. The audience naturally stood up and walked to the exhibition. They couldn't help touching, lifting the prints to the light, reading Haiku text and putting their eyes close to the wonderful cutting techniques. One observed I was left handed and commented how difficult it must be for me as a left handed print maker.......enter..... Carol's "Lefties Can Carve" exchange. My prepared presentation went to the dogs because I was bombarded with questions about you all. I ran well beyond my time allocation of 15 minutes which was a sound indication that it was a success. The Director of Expressive Arts has booked the exhibition for the prestigious Art and Design Conference at the Horncastle College in February 2005. The head of printmaking at the North Kestevan Specialist Arts College was so impressed with this "exceptionally rare exhibition" that he has booked me for workshops at the Annual Arts Festival in July 2005...providing I bring my "portfolio treasure" with me...I might be able to take along another edition by then!!
My next workshop/presentation of the Surimono prints is in a fortnight with 60 young 'printmakers' aged 9 years old.The pressure is really on for this one!!!

Dazzled by your talents in the b'oki portfolio

Hi and thanks for the kind words both off and on the list. The show went
really well with 50+- people over the 2 hours. I sold a complete set and a
couple of stray prints so am 'as happy as a pig in larry' (love my mixed
metaphor). I'll post images of the prints to the site some time in the near
future and let you know the url.

I think that some of you would be really interested in seeing the work that
Patsy Payne supplied to the show, which is absolutely poetically stunning
and the hybrid Australian/Japanese print by Martin Stanley. Will post those
as soon as possible.

Thanks again for the encouragement and kind words...

Lawrence
