"Yang Rui's prints are lovely - it would be interesting to know more about
the technique since they're called "watercolor woodcut prints" -are they
like the traditional japanese or perhaps hand-coloured or painted??"

I have prints by several Suzhou artists and while they are similar, they are also distinctly different. They all deal with the canals, bridges, boats and towers of Suzhou. They all utilise wet printing to bring an aqueous quality to the print, and because of the bleed most artists trim the prints. This might lead online viewers to think the prints are lithographs or cheaper reproductions. They are in fact woodblock prints, and exquisitely made. There is some handpainting, but the linework is woodblock printing.

Some artists are better than others, but they are all accomplished printmakers. Yang Rui seems to be presenting a range of the common styles and themes.
It is possible to buy prints from leading artists for a fraction of the gallery prices. Suzhou print prices on Ebay have moved from $25 to $44 in the last 6 months.

For those interested and who have access to a library with old issues of
magazines, in Art International, Sept-November 1984, there is an article
by Michael Sullivan called "The Chinese Art of 'Water Printing', Shui
Yin." It gives an overview of this ancient technique which is finding
new practioners.

Sounds great Ray. I'd love to see it. Maybe it's somewhere on line. Do you
think? Bea Gold

Here's a note I received this morning from Saskatoon, Canada. Don't
miss this one - you won't believe what you are seeing!

Those are amazing prints!
Thank you David for sharing.

Now that I'm thinking about it I just want to say thanks to everyone who shares links to beautiful and/or interesting printmaking links.

Stuff you might never run across on your own.
It's fabulous what is out there.

Thanks again,
