In the carving, I have not yet found jewellers rouge, but I have been
told
that valve-grinding paste on plate glass may be even better than rouge
on
leather. I have bought a honing jig, a little wheelie thing that rolls
along
keeping the grinding angle consistent, this has improved my sharpening
immensely. I also bought a fine grade 6" diamond block for the courser
grinding, which is great cause it stays flat.
My carved lines are now much finer. The birch ply I am using does chip
off
now and then, so I fix little nicks with epoxy.

Besides printmaking I work as a jeweler, and can help with names of
suppliers for the product needed to get the ultimate edge. Sorry I
cannot even begin to concentrate putting the info together on this
post.
Just in from a wildland fire and out again tomorrow. 15hrs a day

form to find suppliers in your country and post here the products and
suppliers. Hope this helps. Some amazing products out there to make this
chore easy.

Hi there:
Automotive wet/dry papers and 3M micro abrasive papers
glued to plate glass or wooden hones will bring up an
edge every bit as fine as waterstones or oil stones.
Use each grade in order, from a resonable starting
grit without skipping and take your time.
ALWAYS DRAW THE TOOL TO YOU, never push, as you will
cut into your paper or hone.
Finish up by polishing the edges using chromium oxide
honing compound or artist oil paint (dried) applied to
hones or strips of paper.

Just a note on the sample books from the Baren Mall. They are beautiful and
filled with a lot of papers, I recommend one for the beginner. Thanks for
the comments on the cheaper good papers, It is helpful to hear how others
are doing with the printing. I am saving my dry pigments to take when i
travel, that should be so much nicer for me than carrying jars that some
times leak. I got my leather strop through woodcrafters, with a honing
compound included and love it. Not sure if it can be found online.

If you thought WET pigment made a mess when it leaked, just wait til the
DRY stuff leaks!!! WOW!!! A little goes a long Long LONG way!!! :-)

I am printing a large reduction block using Graphic Chemical water
based inks. I am on my four color, with many more to go.
It seems that every time I add a new color, it takes longer to dry. Is
there any way to speed up the drying process or limit the tackiness?

Note: The Baren Exchange is a program for forum members to create, exchange and display editions of woodblock prints. Relief prints pulled from wood substitutes and wood-like materials, including linoleum, corian, MDF, resingrave, and similar are acceptable as are collagraphs. Coordinators are obligated to reject prints whose primary method of production is by other means. For example: monotype, intaglio, stencil, lithography, ink jet, laser, photocopy, etc are to be rejected by the coordinator.
b.. Theme: none
c.. Image size: no restriction.
d.. Paper size: Chuban, about 10 x 7.5 inches (25.5 x 19cm). Note: coordinators are obligated to reject prints which exceed 10.5 x 8 inches (26.67 x 20.32 cm).
Paper type: no restriction
e.. Drop-out deadline: October 1st, 2004 If you must drop out of the exchange, please do so as early as possible in order to give people on the waiting list time to complete and submit their prints. If you drop out after this date then a penalty may be imposed.
