I would assume that the virus came through the "old" baren emails, as the
"new" ones are only plain text?? at any rate, I ran my norton antivirus and
nothing showed up.
Sharri, congrats! I look forward to seeing images from your show!
Also congrats to Mary on your exhibition. wonderful to be in such an active
group
and of course wish I lived in both your "neighborhoods" so I could stop by.
:)
best wishes
Sarah
The virus came though the new emails going out and not the archives.
Most antivirus programs remove such viruses seamlessly without you noticing
especially if your ISP scans emails automatically such as aol. That being
said, it is not the first time emails from Baren have been infected and some
people are not protecting their systems well enough. Sorry to complain but I
always take precautions and I still suffered a huge loss a month and a half
ago during a very busy time so I am a might touchy. Make sure your
anti-virus program automatically scans emails, and update your virus
signatures weekly.
I have agreed to lead a printmaking activity that is part of a larger
non-art-related event. It has three goals from the point of the event
organizers--to allow participants to express their experience of the event,
to create objects that are used in the event community environment and to
spread out the rush at the lunch line.
Because the skill of the participants will likely vary from none to some
and the time blocks available are only an hour and a half at any one time,
I thought that styrofoam blocks with water soluble Western style inks was
the way to go. Quick to cut, no special tools and simple cleanup were the
criteria.
But I have very little experience with these inks and hoped that some of
you might have some suggestions regarding brands. Especially as the event
organizers were wondering if we could do some printing on fabric as well as
on paper.
Actually any words of wisdom would be helpful. Thanks in advance

I will be in Honolulu next week (6/13th-18th) and would like to know what
recommended galleries and other art/print related viewing any of you could
recommend. Won't have a car so it needs to be accessible from Waikiki area or by
public transportation. Any suggestions? Claudia - anything you would
recommend? Most of the time I will be in sessions of a scientific workshop, but I can
always find time for art. thanks, Patsy
My puzzle print arrived safely last week. I thought I must have been the
lucky last, but it seems Jan's took even longer! One end of the tube had
been crushed, as it had lost it's plastic cap - just a strip of tape blocked
the end. I felt a bit sick when I saw that, but luckily it was a long tube,
and the prints were unharmed, at the other end.
Thank you Maria, and everyone involved in this wonderful project.

There is currently two shows at the Honolulu Academy of Arts related to
prints, "European Modernism. 1860-1930: Prints from the Academy's
Collection" (Bonnard, Cezanne Degas, Gaugan, Manet Toulouse -Lautrec,
etc.), and, in conjunction, "Influencing Paris; Japanese Prints
Collected by European Artists." The Academy of Arts is located at 900
South Beretania, not exactly in Waikiki, but accessible by bus or
shuttle. Ask at your hotel.
Also, just down the street from the Academy, also on Beretania is the
Robin Buntin Gallery, with enough Japanese prints from all periods to
keep you looking for an hour or more.

Mary,
I have a lot of experience doing art fairs and speedball watersoluble block printing ink is the only way to go. Just put a very little out at a time as it dries very quickly. If you need to ink and print on dry paper, you need to be fairly fast about doing it. We have printed on fusable pellon (interfacing for sewing) and ironed it onto a larger piece using this ink with great success. We did not wash it, so if you plan to wash it you will need special ink that will set up waterproof when dry. I don't have a recommendation here, but your local art supply store can help you with this...use some kind of thick fabric paint.
Best to you,
Barbara
