Hi Everyone,
With Japanese paper being generally quite thin is it normal to paste it to a
heavier paper after printing?
Cheers
Steve

Patti,
Wow! I think bill Richie's advice to you is right on target. I can't think of
a young artist I know of at the moment, who has the energy, ability, and
drive to attempt such a needed approach to printmaking in academic
settings. You go girl...

It is always a little sad to see a show end, but it was also a relief to
take down the Jugalbandi show last night, since I am so busy now. I had to
gallery sit on weekends, which was nice because I had visitors like the
renowned Sarah Hauser. (see photo at:
http://www.aprilvollmer.com/jugalbandi/pages/xDSCN0218.htm )
I made two new woodcuts for the show, "Breathing In" and "Breathing Out."
Since the show was an Indian/American exchange show, I thought pranayama was
appropriate. We had a good response, saw a lot of friends, made some new
ones, and even sold a little art. I put photos on my website at

Patti PC,
I forgot to mention WSU Vancouver (it is my back yard, for heaven's
sake -) The instructor there is doing a great job of combining
computer and printmaking. I don't know how much woodblock is involved,
but you can take it that direction, and he would be a great guy to work
with. His name is Harrison Higgs and you could talk to him about it.
Let me know if you're interested and I'll hook you up with him.
As usual, Bill Ritchie has the winning idea! You go, Bill :-)

Thank you thank you, April! I really enjoyed the photos of the show.
All of the art was gorgeous.
Wish I could have just popped in. Looks like everyone was having a
super time. And 'you' always do!
Bette.

Bette, this, for Kent, is one big challenge..... You have just thrown him
a bigggggg challenge..... Kent never does things by halves and it just
wouldn't surprise me if he just did what you have suggested!! I would
like a print of the finished article please Kent.... I'll even pay the
postage.
Send me an invite when you have finished it and I'll even try to get
there to help you print it, but you have Mrs "Experience" already in
Portland with large prints and I am sure she would be willing to help
you too.....
I'd like to see that! :-))

Hi Steve,
I didn't see a response, so I thought I might chime in. First though,
I think we need to break it down.
The first thing I learned, it takes about 4 to 6 impressions before the
end result begins to look "right", sometimes more depending on the wood
and sometimes less if you're using lino. So, you gotta print a few,
using the same paper and ink, to see if it's O.K. or not. Then, if it
still isn't working, start breaking it down.
I usually start with the paper. I try dry, then damp, then a different
brand, etc...
Then I try the ink; out of the tube, more extender, more retarder,
etc...
At some point in the process, I usually figure it out.
I could be more helpful with details, like brand of ink and paper, but
remember, have fun!
