Maria, try Burton, Ohio. We'd love for you to be here. I have a spare
bedroom, and that's where the computer is, too, so you could write home
anytime you wanted to. You'd just have to let me in here to do
archives once a day :-). I have a screened-in back porch that is great
for setting up projects in summer. We could paddle the canoe down the
river to the Green River Tavern one evening by moonlight (just for
diversion :-) and listen to the barred owls along the way).

The studio faces West, the bed faces West, the computer faces.....well you
get the idea. Plus other attractions.
You are welcome here.
There is a very interesting tree with leaves of 3 different shapes, due for a
carving job. Name?

Emma Jane,

Please don't give up on the monkeys. However, I think you'd be wise to
look for a trickle rather than a flood. Mine have been postponed until
I finish the shunga, do another card for the card exchange, and a show
in June I'm way behind on. But, the drawing is in the book and will
get to a block one of these days. Meanwhile, thanx to everyone else
who has theirs done and were on time. They are wonderful, everyone of
them and it is such fun to find them in the mail. Think of their
arrival as a treasure hunt :-)

A baren wata was mentioned. I made mine out of an old piece of terry
towel spray glued onto a square of fomecore and backed with that
rubberized shelf lining material - the kind that resembles what you put
under throw rugs to keep them from sliding. With just a sprinkle of
camelia oil (or magic oil if you wish) you're good to go.

Maria, what date should I put you down for? I can hardly wait for you
to get here. Definitely put Vancouver, WA on your list. Yes! We will
print! And, by then I should have the little apartment upstairs
finished and you can stay as long as you wish. I'm so excited! Anyone
else want to come, too?

I'm late for the movie (produced and directed by our very own D. Bull)
and I hear its a winner.

Happy Printing,

Sharri

Thanks to everyone who suggested Birch Plywood. Its made a huge difference.
All I have to do now is keep my smutty fingers clean and avoid gloops.

But there's more. In book I have it says that you can make black printing
ink by soaking some of that hard chinese writing ink which is normally ground
against a stone with water . It just so happened that I had a chunk of that so
I put it in a jar of water before christmas and its still as hard as coal 6
weeks later.

One question for Caye. You mentioned about priming plywood. Does priming
have a particular meaning in the context of wood block printing? Over here the
term is used in house decorating to refer to a particular kind of paint which
is used to seal wood before over painting with gloss paint or whatever.

Cheers

Apologies for sending two emails today. I'd be very grateful if someone
could suggest a suitable practise paper for a beginner in japanese woodblock
prining from Baren Mall.

Thanks

Hi Maria: Would you consider Citrus Heights in the Sacramento Area? I
have a guest room, actually it's the room I store art supplies in, but it
has a day bed! Carol Wagner and I would love to print and visit with you.
As long as it's during the summer, since I'm in school and work 30 hour
weeks during the Spring and Fall, than you can spend as long as you need
here. Let me know ASAP when you plan to be in this area so I can put in
for vacation time and make sure I don't plan a road trip of my own during
the the same time!

Hi John. I thought that when I entered colophon info you'd count that as
having heard from me. My edition will be done and shipped at the end of this
week.

Cheers from Jersey to Chicago - stay warm if you can.

How far west are you talking? If you want to go international, there's a bed for you here in Australia, that is if you don't mind a vegetarian diet and tripping over kids and toys.
