Baren Digest Sunday, 24 August 2003 Volume 24 : Number 2351 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Cucamongie#aol.com Date: Sat, 23 Aug 2003 10:13:22 EDT Subject: [Baren 22610] congrats, etc Congrats to April and Mike, what wonderful news! And Marilynn, I wanted to tell you that I have a cream called Topricin, which is a homeopathic cream that seems to work on bruises, strained muscles, etc. You can call the company at 800-959-1007 (I ordered it online, but can't remember the website). Arnica cream might be good if you can't find this. happy printing! The work I have has two different labels on verso. One says "Henri Fromm, Germany 1967 - 1992 Worldwide recognition, painting, psychoanalyse" The other says, "St Lukas Gilde, Antwerpen Der Generalprokurator, Henri From" the last two lines of the second label have been inked out so I can't tell what they say but it might be an address, "Galgenweg 8 D-96117 Bamberg/Memmelsdorf/Germany - is the best I can make out. If you have any information or leads on this fellow please let me know - it will be greatly appreciated. I have two monotypes done by this Fromm - both dated 13/1/94. They are in deplorable condition and I've been asked to "fix" and frame them. I have a friend who will do any acid damage restoration, and I suspect there may be a little. I'm hoping she can also identify the paper. This is one of those things you end up doing because you're an artist and you're supposed to be able to do all this kind of stuff, right?? And, having printed all day, I have a few choice words for the masochist who invented hanga and if I ever run into him he is dead meat. (Can you guess how things went today?) Sigh. :-) Cheers, Sharri ------------------------------ From: "April Vollmer" Date: Sat, 23 Aug 2003 22:50:54 -0400 Subject: [Baren 22612] Champagne and viruses I plan to join Mike for the Champagne reception at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking! I am very happy to be showing with such a distinguished crowd! This summer produced a huge increase in spam and viruses. When a virus makes the front page of the Times, you know it's serious. I spent several hours today updating my Win 2000 computer, and fixing a minor virus I got. This is when you realize the real advantage of Macs: fewer security holes. Make sure your virus signatures are updated DAILY. Get a firewall - you NEED one. I understand there are several free ones, including Sygate www.sygate.com . If you have a network you should have a hardware firewall. Even dialup users should use a firewall, and a cable modem or DSL router alone provides no real protection. Then go to WindowsUpdate to pick up the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. (You should do this about once a month anyway, at least) It's strangely like safe sex: if you don't use protection, sooner or later you'll catch something! Happy computing! It is an excellent product and I'd suppose you still carry it. Previous discussion referred to Graphic Chemical transparent base, which apparently wasn't doing the job for whomever in whichever quite situation (I've forgotten). I was merely refering a source and a product, not to be confused with your labeled product. BTW, I am still interested in whatever you use to make your Graphic Chemical watersoluble vehicle No. 2801 so very tacky. I seriously doubt it is corn starch or potatoe starch or CMC. The taste test goes more to hemlock than honey. I really don't care for trade secrets; if you could package it up and sell it, I'd buy in in a heartbeat. May your firewalls always remain impenetrable!
