I would appreciate the opportunity to buy paper at the Summit. It would be a lot less to worry about if I only had to pack it one way! See you all soon! She's based in Bristol and I recall seeing a traveling show that came to Bournemouth 2 yrs ago of ENORMOUS woodcuts - I shall have to come off the mail list while I'm away but will be collecting mail at lcass#canada.com -(all the daily baren mail would be just too much to cope with since I'll be using a local cafe or library or the odd relative's facilities) Carol Lyons - what a pity our paths won't be crossing 'over there' since you'll be back for the Kansa City meeting - I expect to arrive at Heathrow on the 30th (May). While I'm writing - is there anyone out there in the U.K. (apart from the Wilson Harveys) who might want to make contact with a Toronto (very funny but apparently safe now!) artist? best regards Louise Cass http://www.LCassArt.com ------------------------------ From: FurryPressII#aol.com Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 12:04:26 EDT Subject: [Baren 21508] Re: inks On printing oil based over multi layers of oil based ink one thing you should keep in mind is that oil based ink dries into the paper and air. The dried oil based ink seals the paper so the upper layers take much longer to dry so you should use cobalt dryer. Multi layered oil based ink can get glossy so if that bothers you use "dull it" from graphic chem. There is also a product out there that makes oil based ink adhere to dried ink but I have never had to use it so it's name slips my addled brain. Oil based inks can have as many different effects as Japanese printing style and take many years to prefect, humm more ideas.???? john center ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez#walgreens.com Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 13:18:10 -0500 Subject: [Baren 21509] Re: first Calendar-2004 prints arrive !!!! I am working on a small artist book on the subject of war/peace the sheet of paper is bigger than 10 by 15 but will fold into 10 by 15 is that OK? I have wanted to do an artist book on this subject it is a folded book that will be 10 by 15 when finished? On the summit I am wondering if certain things will be avabile as I am traveling by public transportation and can carry only so much. Example might be sharpening stones and printing supplies such as brushes, ink, and/or paper, paying for the above would be no problem. As I will be taking one bus, two subways, Amtrak train and a cab you can guess what paper would look like by the time I got there. I am coming by Amtrak on June 14 I am not sure of the arrival time. On another subject could you send me more info on the "large print exchange II" I need the link as my computer has crashed and I lost the info. Dear John, 1) I'm not certain exactly what you're asking... #17 exchange: paper must be no larger than 10.5 by 15.5 inches. No folding. 2) Summit: I have sharpening stuff and I'm sure others will, too. I don't know whether you'll like my sharpening stuff or not. There's a good chance that brushes, ink, paper, and other stuff will be available for purchase on-site. That's the purpose of the survey I sent the summit participants earlier today. Fill that out so Barbara Mason (Baren Mall) and Matsumura-san can put their heads together to figure out how to do the best job for us. 3) carrying stuff. No need to carry stuff. Pack up a box or two and ship it/them to yourself in care of me -- I sent my address a day or two ago for this purpose... Let me know if you'd like me to send it to you again? 4) transportation... Here's a lucky break: Union Station is very close to the studio... maybe 6 blocks. 5) LPE II link: http://www.rst-art.com/lpe.htm about 1/2 way down the page... - -- Mike Mike Lyon mailto:mikelyon#mlyon.com http://www.mlyon.com ------------------------------ From: John Amoss Date: Thu, 15 May 2003 21:31:58 -0500 (EST) Subject: [Baren 21515] H.
