TO) but how does one choose which of the manyto try. I've been managing to hone/sharpen with a 4000 and 1000 grit waterstone respectively and don't have another stone to smooth down the unevenness in the 4000 grit stone - After experimenting on the back I'm preparing to cut the cherry plywood piece and obviously tools will need more frequent honing - has anyone actually used the 3m stuff? I must add that I agree with Shari re cutting deep into plywood (I know Maria had to select it for possible warpage problems but I'd tried a plywood ages ago and disliked the look and feel of the splintery lower layers) Louise cass At 10:27 AM 2/23/03 EST, you wrote: >In a message dated 2/22/03 6:14:38 PM Eastern Standard Time, >april#aprilvollmer.com writes: > > > http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/ > > Film: Scary Sharpening > > Fearless and willing to try yet another method to solve my continuing >situation of being sharpening "challenged" > > Carol/NY > > > http://www.LCassArt.com ------------------------------ From: slinders#attbi.com Date: Sun, 23 Feb 2003 12:03:05 -0600 Subject: [Baren 20823] Chicago Art Possibilities~ The Art Institute of Chicago welcomes you to these presentations: April 4, "Poetry in Blossom: Hiroshige's Springtime Prints", Lecture on Hiroshige's landscape prints, 12:00, gallery 100. Perhaps it works on cloth as well. The thing with white string in the shape of a Z is a brush for applying ink, and the black things are sutra blocks. I thought we were having a rather nice conversation on types of wood and the difficulty issues associated with carving each with a variety of tools. But being called a little boy did amuse me quite a bit, I really always wanted to be a little boy. I had indeed wanted to use solid cherry for the puzzle but got talked out of it by several of you more experienced woodsmen who brought up warping issues and other logical things. I thought cherry plywood would make a nice substitute and carved a piece before sending y'all yours without any more difficulty than any other type of plywood. Be happy campers, k? Just found a dried up roller in the studio uh-oh. Any one else found any thing that works? Esp detailed cuts with large solid black or colored areas. After seeing what you are going to do with it there would be no better way to do it. If you had used solid plank boards more than likely they would have warped, checked or cracked in part of the block you are putting the pieces into. Just rember folks lots of different ways to skin that cat. (hope my two furry meatloafs don't see this post) I could not do my work in a soft wood but others love the stuff. john center ------------------------------ From: FurryPressII#aol.com Date: Mon, 24 Feb 2003 06:03:41 EST Subject: [Baren 20830] Re: Cleaning dried oil based ink on rollers type wash might do it as well but do it out side nasty stuff if it is a good brayer it might be worth the trouble if a cheap one like speedball just toss it john center ------------------------------ End of Baren Digest V22 #2140 *****************************
