I can't pass up the opportunity to point out that Graphic Chemical has stones 
in stock always -- frequently has used stones available, too. No need to bid, 
low prices, instant gratification etc.

Can't speak for the quality Carol, but if I understand those dimensions 
correctly - one quarter inch thick? - then this wood isn't so suitable 
for our work. Only a quarter inch in depth doesn't really leave you much 
leeway for scooping out the waste areas between the carved lines, and 
then when you come to print, putting water-based pigment on such a thin 
block would cause it to immediately warp.

You could perhaps glue/screw this piece down to a thicker plywood base, 
which would make it more practical for printmaking ...

Not particular to wooblock, but useful for navigating to artisr's supplies of 
all kinds on ebay.

In regard to the litho stones, it is hard to find them because if you type in 
key words, you get thousands of "collectable lithographs." I know, bbecause I 
tried to wade through them yeaterday. 
Two ways, the long term useful, is to know that you have to go to hobbies and 
crafts > Arts & crafts>Art Supplies, then search by keyword, and you will 
only get art materials and supplies.
So if you tyoe in lithographic stones there, you get only stones, not Disney 
lithographs. Good to know for any art supply search.

Currently working on a 24" by 30" wood cut in plank maple 4/4 maple been 
working larger lately so I get to print them on an etching press instead of 
my vandercook which is so much easier but has size limitations can only print 
14" wide.  In the time it takes to get an etching press ready esp if it is a 
communal one I can print 15 on my vandercook.  It is better to get narrow 
boards and glue them together than use wider boards.  If you glue them with 
the grain going in different directions every other board you will reduce 
warpage esp if you live in a humid climate you could glue end boards to also 
stop warpage.  Plank grain maple is almost as good for detail as end grain 
esp if you are working big. Never found a piece of plywood that would work as 
well.  About an hours work between gluing and sanding and you are ready to 
put you image on the board.

All the tools you need are bar clamps and a belt sander.
when i am done i will have a print for the next LPE unless it is too big    
lol.

The Print Club at University of Alaska, Anchorage invites printmakers to
submit ExLibris prints for an exhibition in the Campus Gallery which will
take place in January 2003. Up to 75 artists may each submit an edition of
16 prints. The participants will then receive a collection of 15 randomly
selected prints in the excange.

Please e-mail a letter of intent to me at rbrud@gci.net by October 15, 2002.

Prints will be submitted on 3" x 5" paper, in editions of 16 no later than
December 15, 2002. An entry fee of $5. payable to the UAA Print Club will be
used to cover mailing of the collection of prints to you. Prints and a
self-addressed return envelope should be sent to:
